String Class Update
Persistent Practice
The ability to practice regularly and effectively is an important habit crucial to the development of any skill. The fourth grade violin class and the 5-6 String Orchestra are participating in a special program designed to nurture this habit. Each Thursday, practice logs are being collected and tallied. If the player meets the goal of 5 or more practices for the previous week, they gain a point for each practice day. In June those players who meet the "Persistent Practice" Challenge will recieve a certificate and a small incentive from a grab bag. The goal is 100 practice points and progress will be reviewed weekly. Each week is a fresh start and there are a few extra weeks built into the calendar.
South Coast Symphony Concert
On Friday, February 4th, the fourth grade class will attend a special concert at South Coast Symphony. Three young artists will be featured (violin, trumpet and voice) and Ms. Poth will be playing in the 1st violin section. The program is designed to be both entertaining and inspiring. Ms. Poth will be reviewing appropriate behavior and some of the music in class.
5-6 String Orchestra
After a successful performance in the winter program, the string orchestra is learning several new pieces. Players are expected to use written music to learn their songs and may spend some practice time writing cues in their parts. They are playing the D scale and learning fiddle tunes to share before St. Patrick's day.
Fourth Grade Class
The fourth grade class is making excellent progress as they learn to play a challenging instrument. While we look at notes to learn our songs, most of the playing is from memory (rote). The Cabbage fiddle tune (with variations) will be shared before St. Patrick's Day. Some players have learned Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" and most are able play several tunes. Practice may include pencil exercises which mimic bow skills. Tuesday is the day for case and folder checks.
Thank you for letting me make music with your students!
~ Ms. Poth

Holly's (WED) Crafts Class

Class is each Wednesday from 12:30 - 3:00 PM
Register your child by emailing hollyhj@yahoo.com
25.00 per class plus a $5.00 supply fee per month
