Community Outreach International Violence Against Women Act 16 days of activism against Gender Violence Campaign Nov 25 - Dec 10
In partnership with Women Thrive Worldwide, World Pulse is asking women around the world to use our voices as instruments for change in saying NO to gender-based violence and to put pressure on the United States government to pass the International Violence Against Women Act (I-VAWA).
What is I-VAWA? The International Violence Against Women Act is a major step and unprecedented effort to end violence against women and girls across the globe. Because the Senate is meeting soon, these next few weeks, between now and mid-December, are a critical time to get this bill passed.

Each child donates the number of items they are going to "purchase" plus 4 extra. The cost of each gift is $2.00. The maximum number of gifts a child can purchase is 12 and there is no minimum. Participation in Fairy Market is voluntary for each child and family. Please check the appropriate box on the gift list that was sent home with your child if he or she will not be participating.

Council Update The Journey School Council held its most recent meeting on Thursday, November 18. A good portion of this meeting was spent reviewing the school's updated budget for 2010-11. Larry Tamayo, from ExED (Journey's business management consulting firm), led the review and noted that, even in these tough economic times, the school is showing both a positive balance and healthy reserves. This allows the school to invest in two of its current priorities: teacher training and fund development.
Also present at this meeting was Debra Lambrecht, Journey's development consultant, who provided an update on the development plan she is putting in place for the school. She identified several school projects she views as being fundable including the garden, media literacy, a permanent campus, the teacher training program, and music education.
Shaheer Faltas gave the Council a progress report on three of his "big rocks": Challenging Learning Goals/Effective Assessment/ Student Support, Mission Adherence, and Growing/Leveraging School Resources. And, finally, Bonnie River provided a faculty update on their work on progress reports, student assessments, and effective governance.
The final Council meeting of the year will be held on Thursday, December 16 at 6:30 p.m. Remember, all members of the community are welcome to attend, and time is set aside at the beginning of each meeting for public comment.
