Journey School News

Dear Journey School Friends and Families,

Journey School is committed to establishing strong educational partnerships with its families focused on student learning and personal growth. That is why we have scheduled important parent conferences for October 27, 28, 29 and November 1. During these 45-minute learning conversations, teachers and parents will explore such questions as:

What is my student learning?
How is he/she progressing academically and personally?
What new insight can be gained by talking about student work, teacher observations, and parental feedback?
How can we support even more growth by focusing on common goals?

Your Main Class Teacher will be in contact in the coming days about the specific day and time your conference will occur. In the meantime, be sure to maintain availability as your conference is a schooling priority that must occur to serve your child well. We look forward to the dialogue!

Attendance Update

Learning and class cohesion can only occur when students attend school each day. Thank you for doing your part during Month 1 -- as more than 96% of our students were in class on any given day. Now that we've entered Month 2-the new goal is 97%! Remember, student attendance on upcoming minimum days is essential!

Halloween Costumes

Halloween is right around the corner! We want the students to dress in a costume related to their curr with no blood, guts, caricatures, etc. We will designate the date to dress up but wanted parents to know early as a courtesy. Remember to ask teachers for costume suggestions, too!

School Portraits

School individual portraits and class group pictures will be taken the week of October 18 during the games classes so that there will be no interruption during the Main Lesson.

NO PAYMENT IS DUE AT THE TIME PICTURES ARE TAKEN!
Proofs and an order form will be sent home with each student.

The Kindergarten team is establishing the best days and times for each of the teachers during the week of October 18-22. There will be a group picture taken with each of the teachers and the individual photos will be taken after morning circle during outdoor play, 9:00-10:30. (For Kindergarten, a complete schedule will be established and sent home soon.)

Journey Orchestra - Grades 5-8
Don't let your child miss out on the chance to be part of something unique and new to Journey! Ms. Poth is offering all skill levels the opportunity to play in an ensemble, sampling a wide variety of music from around the world. An antique piano is being offered as a donation to our school. The make is Ernest Gabler, dating back to May 1877 but it needs work. If you have this skill, please contact Diana at dianac@journeyschool.net.

Support Recycling Program

Help the 2nd Graders Revive the Recycling Program
Recycling 2nd Graders

Bring your Plastic beverage containers and Aluminum cans every Thursday!

Join Miss Berger's 2nd grade class to help revive the recycling program at Journey! It's a great way to help the environment and raise funds for our school. (One filled container can raise $1500) Every Thursday at drop off, the 2nd grade parent volunteers and students will collect your white trash bags filled with recycled containers! Get creative and ask your neighbors or local restaurants to save their plastic bottles and aluminum cans!

Here are the guidelines:

Beverage containers (plastic bottles and aluminum cans) ONLY
NO GLASS
Contributions in clear/white plastic bags ONLY
Please rinse out containers before submitting

Garden and Ecology Update

Wattle Fence Weaving Schedule
We're so excited to announce that the entire student body will be helping to weave our wattle fence on Thursday, Oct. 21 and Friday, Oct. 22 during scheduled handwork classes. (See schedule below and feel welcome to lend a hand).

This exciting community building project is a collaborative effort between Journey School, Master Gardeners and California Department of Fish and Game.

Another Harvest Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 20 from 8:30 to noon. (Adults only). If interested please contact Monica Andersen at monicaplus4@aol.com

Events and Opportunities

Join Us for Lunch on Mondays

Enjoy a few more minutes on Monday morning by leaving lunch to us! Order Sharky's and provide your children a healthy, hot lunch, while helping the 8th grade raise funds for their end of the year trip. Please turn in your order no later than drop off on Monday AM for lunchtime delivery!

Our first week was a huge success and we would LOVE to have you join us! Let the eighth grade help you "Make It Easy Monday" by ordering a delicious, nutritious lunch provided by Sharkey's for the low cost of $4.50-$5.50 per lunch. This program will be on-going and last throughout the year. It is our goal to provide healthy choices and a low waste delivery, and we are excited to do so with Sharky's.

Please order individually per child and total your order weekly and at the total payment line below. Checks can be written to cover the entire family order, just place in an envelope together with all orders. Kindy parents, you may order for yourself and your child on the same form!
