Good Things Are Happening!
September 17, 2010

Dear Journey School Friends and Families,

I am happy to report the start of the school year has been smooth and upbeat! Based on my regular classroom walk-throughs, I've noticed positive student behavior throughout the campus and a high level of excitement for learning! This reflects our teachers' abilities to understand the needs of your children and to plan engaging lessons that are delivered with passion!

In fact, we're so excited to "show off" the classrooms that we're going to begin "learning walks" in just a couple of weeks so current and prospective parents can actually experience a student's day first hand. Be on the lookout for opportunities to RSVP via next week's newsletter.

It has also been wonderful watching all of you laughing and enjoying each other's company during our picnics, meetings, book clubs, back-to-school night, etc. It lifts my spirits and makes me feel grateful when I think about how far our community has come in such a short time! And, if you're new to Journey, remember that great charter schools are born and sustained by a community of committed and passionate parents. Your level of involvement will mirror your level of satisfaction with and sense of belonging to our community. In other words, we want you to check out a couple groups or volunteer opportunities and see what fits you!

Finally, I want us all to continue to raise the bar when it comes to what we expect from our children. Please support your children's success by:
  • Getting them to school on time and every day -- we need 100% attendance
  • Ensuring students eat well and get lots of sleep
  • Honoring our medial policy
  • Reading with your children 30 minutes each day
  • Inspiring your children to play their instruments every day
  • Creating a positive tone when it comes to homework assignments
Thank you so much for your ongoing support and efforts. It really does take a village.

Onwards and Upwards!

They appear calmed by our gentle inhales and exhales/contractions and expansions of the day. It is a pleasure to be back at Journey School. We are currently looking for some folks to help us establish an outdoor woodworking shop. Please see anyone from the Early Childhood Department if you are interested. Much Appreciation Always ~ Miss Hellene
