Community Outreach -- Flooding in Pakistan
Pakistan's worst flooding in living memory has affected 20 million people, washed away homes, crops and farm animals and overwhelmed the Pakistani government. Efforts are being made to deliver blankets and other urgently needed items to flood victims and to thwart outbreaks of waterborne disease.
But, donations have been limited and the situation has become dire.

Good Things Are Happening! September 10, 2010 |
Dear Journey School Family and Friends, What a special start to the school year! In spite of the cloudy weather, we pulled-off a wonderful opening ceremony and Week 1 with our very own brand of Journey School "sunshine." Thank you!
BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT What: Back to School for Grades 1-8 (ALL PARENTS NEEDED)
When: Wednesday, 9/15 from 6:00-8:00 PM
Where: JS Classrooms
Why: (1) Build classroom community; (2) take a "learning walk" through your child's year
How: Be on the look out for a special e-blast
For your convenience, limited childcare will be offered in the MPR during the community meeting and Back to School Night. You must rsvp for safety reasons. No exceptions.
Sign up online through Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 5:00 pm.
Click here for the childcare link.FRIDAY MORNING ASSEMBLIES ARE BACK!- Starting 9/15
- 9:00 a.m. in the MPR
- Come join us for a special gift from a designated class each week.
COMMUNITY AGREEMENTSCell Phones- According to staff, no student cell phones were seen or heard during Week 1.
- This is a good start.
- Continue to set this tone from the outset.
Dress Code- 98% of all students were dressed appropriately.
- Thank you to those in the "choir."
- Still, this is not good enough.
- We need 100% adherence so the focus can be on what matters most -- learning!
- Do your part by approving attire in advance each evening.
- Then, hold your student(s) accountable before drop-off!
- We'll take it from there by providing "loaner" t-shirts and parent calls in respectful but firm ways.
Cultivating Kindness- Our students are defined by their kindness and sweet nature.
- This distinctive quality is already evident.
- For example, older students cared for younger peers by guiding them to class and in their play.
- Let's continue to cultivate kindness on campus.
- We especially want to teach students their words "really do matter".
- No put-downs!
- Words like "stupid" or "idiot" should not be used.
- Please reiterate this important message -- especially through modeling and interesting storytelling.
Nutrition & Exercise- Students need healthy fuel to learn.
- They also rely on us to model healthy habits for life.
- Brown bread not white
- Proteins not chips
- Water not juice -- (per our lunch and snack policy)
- Tupperware versus plastic
- No waste
AM DROP-OFF- Kindy parents should park on the hill and stroll to campus if possible.
- Kindy students can be "handed-over" between 8:25-8:30.
- 4 spaces have been reserved for Kindy parents in a "morning crunch" (3 minutes only).
- Grades students should be dropped off along the yellow curb between 8:15-8:25.
- No students are allowed in the parking lot.
PM PICK-UP- Kindy students to be picked-up at 12:30 promptly.
- Again, 4 spaces have been reserved for quick "pick-up" -- though we prefer you park on the hill.
- Grades 1-3 to be picked up at morning "drop-off zone" (NEW TRIAL)
- Grades 4-8 to be picked up at the front gate.
- Younger siblings and car pool to be picked up at the front gate, too.
- Parents of older students are especially encouraged to park on the hill to avoid congestion.
