Good Things Are Happening!
September 3, 2010

Dear Journey School Friends and Families,

It was AWESOME seeing you at our inaugural community meeting on Wednesday. Thanks so much for the great turnout, festive mood, and positive feedback.

Here's a recap of the meeting:
  • Diana Corbo welcomed us with a song about togetherness and perseverance.
  • Journey School's "Dream Team" was introduced.
  • Bonnie River reflected on 30 Years as a Waldorf Educator.
  • Our theme, "Year of the Sea Star," was introduced focusing on strength & sustainability.

  • We talked about what it means to be in the second year of a turn-around process.
  • We agreed that it is time to focus on what matters most--7 "BIG ROCKS." (Be on the lookout for more info).
  • Michelle Speaker shared how our school is turning green.
  • Lisa Skibsted highlighted the importance of parent partnerships.
  • Marc Damikolas spoke about governance and servant leadership.
  • Diana Corbo described the joy of music and how our kids will experience it.
  •  Richard Martin walked us through a "student's day."
  • We agreed "community" means coming together around core values per our Parent Handbook.
We can't wait to welcome each student and family on the first day of school! Be on the lookout for an e-blast before schools starts highlighting important information to ensure a smooth start.

In the meantime, make it a beautiful weekend with your family and don't forget to join us for our special Rose Ceremony on the first day of school on the front lawn (bring a blanket). As the next e-blast will explain, class begins at 8:30 promptly and the Rose Ceremony at 9:00.

Onwards and Upwards!

"Close the Gap" Update
WD01 Reduced class sizes. High quality supplies. A rich array of single subject classes. The joy of art and music. Healthy living. A small, nurturing, and creative campus. Dedicated teachers. Enduring relationships. Meaningful involvement. These are some the reasons so many of you embrace Waldorf-inspired education and support Journey School financially. THANK YOU.

So far, approximately $180, 000 has been committed for the coming school year. Over 75% of all Journey School families have pledged or given donations. These numbers continue to grow and shatter previous patterns. Let's keep the momentum going.

Contact Cindy TODAY at (949) 448-7232 or email cindy@journeyschool.net to follow-through on your commitment to give or to increase your pledge amount if you can.

If you've not yet given, please try to do so, regardless of amount. At this point, it's not about how much you give versus achieving a 90% participation rate.
