Spring is here and as the temperatures increase so will our need for volunteers.  Please take a look at the upcoming volunteer opportunities below.  There is a brief description, the dates/times needed and the person to contact if interested.  Space is limited so please RSVP with the contact person listed.
 
Seedling Packing  
 Come out to the Nature Center and help us get ready for our annual Seedling Sale.  We will be sorting and repackaging bare root seedlings.  3 hour shifts are available and would be a great opportunity for a group looking for an Earth Day volunteer opportunity.

Seedling Sale Experts  
Seedling Sale Sat, Apr 17 (8a-4p) & Sun, Apr 18 (10a-4p)
We need some knowledgeable individuals to help staff our our annual Seedling Sale.  Customers of the sale often have questions about what seedlings and shrubs work best for their property.  If you think  you might have some answers, we could use your help!  Some experience necessary.

Native Plant Rescuers 
Weekly every spring, a group of volunteers heads into the woods to rescue native plants that would otherwise be destroyed.  This is a great way to learn more about our amazing native plants, meet new people and do your part for conservation.  There will be an informational meeting and presentation on Thu, Apr 29 (6p-7:30p) at the Boardman RIver Nature Center for those interested in learning more.
No experience necessary.

Invasive Species Workbees  
In order to protect the plant and animal diversity, we'll be holding volunteer work bees to remove species invading our area parklands.  Once a month volunteers will meet an an area parkland help battle these unwanted invaders! 
No experience necessary.

Group Conservation Workbees 
We are looking for groups interested in volunteering on the 1st or 3rd Monday afternoon of the month beginning in May.  The workbees will focus on general trail maintenance, planting vegetation, or invasive species removal. 
 No experience necessary

Native Plant Sale Experts 
 Many TC community members come to our annual Native Plant Sale to restore their backyard habitat.  Many of them also need some assistance on the best way to do so.  If you are knowlegeable on native plants, we could use your help.

Lights, Camera, Action! 
UpNorth TV is offering our volunteers free training  - and the use of their cool flip-cameras and editing equipment  -  to produce short videos that highlight the things our volunteers love about the GTCD and the beautiful natural resources of Northern MI.  Videos will be shown on UpNorth TV2.  There is room for about 8 teams.  We can't guarantee an Oscar, but we can guarantee that you'll have a great time!

Nature North Festival  
 Community members will be invited to the Boardman River Nature Center this summer to help celebrate conservation in Northern Michigan.  We are in need of volunteers to help run activities/games, setup, tear down and hand out popcorn/punch.

There will be an informational meeting Apr 9 (2-4p) at the Boardman River Nature Center for those interested in learning more about our Trail Steward program and volunteer needs on our areas parklands.
