Dear Christ the King Families:

I am starting to settle in here at Christ the King and I must say that it is a great place to be. I want to thank all the parents and faculty that have made me feel welcome. There is a lot going on this week. The 8th graders are touring Washington, D.C. and enjoying their time. I'm sure they will all come home exhausted. It is a good thing that there is no school on Friday due to the entire faculty attending a Diocesan in-service at the Seagate Center. Enjoy the day off.

The free time on Friday would be a great opportunity to sell your magazines! The sale kicked off last Friday and continues through the 28th. There are a lot of great prizes for all the students who participate in the sale.

Hopefully the day off will also give the construction crew the time they need to adjust the new heating units in the classrooms. Please be patient as the crew puts the finishing touches on the summer long project. It will be worth it this winter when we are all cozy and warm in the rooms.

Many of your children came home with a Mac and Cheese T-shirt earlier in the week. Vito's Pizza is promoting their new pizza and they wanted the free advertising. They will also give each child and faculty member two pieces of Mac and Cheese pizza on Tuesday October 2nd. If your child does not want the pizza, please pack their lunch.

The parents of Christ the King are the voice of the school. Please spread the word about your positive experiences here at CK. Just as Vito's used the children for free advertising, I am asking each of you to be our voice. There are many great things going on here and it truly is a great place to learn.

In Christ,

Mr. Joe Carroll

CKTAP MAIN EVENT:

It is time to turn in your RSVP's for CK TAP's dinner and auction to benefit tuition assistance on Saturday October 6th beginning at 6 pm at The Toledo Club .  The success of this evening will benefit many of our Christ the King families.   You won't want to miss out on a delicious sit down dinner, unique white elephant auction items, one of a kind children's classroom art projects and a great selection of silent auction items.  Wondering how to avoid the after school parking madness?  You can only get your reserved parking spot and many other CK items at the Main Event.  There is really something for everyone.  For as little as $1 you have a chance to take home a great prize.  RSVP cards can be turned in to the school or parish office, in the collection basket this weekend  or reserve your spot by clicking here. Hope you will join us!

PARENTS' CLUB INFO: The parents club would like your help.  We are in the process of gather information for all of the different events that the parents club sponsors.  The concept is to create manuals that we can supply to volunteers that choose to be in charge of these events.  If you have any information regarding an event you are, or were, in charge of, please contact Dino Boraggina (aborag@libbey.com), or Nikki Kowalski (makowalski@sbcglobal.net).

Your help and willingness to volunteer is greatly appreciated.   Just a reminder to start collecting box tops and Campbell's soup labels.  The box tops and labels help the school by earning money for needed equipment.  On the soup label, you will need to cut out the UPC code and on that, it says "clip and earn 5 points for your school, Labels for Education".  In past years, we have earned money to purchase equipment for the playground area.  You can send in the box tops and labels with your child, or drop them off yourself.  There is a box for each in the library.  Please contact parents club if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support and we are looking forward to a very successful and productive year.

LATIN CLUB:  Any 7th or 8th grade student interested in undertaking first year Latin with Mrs. Roberts must meet with her after school by next Thursday, September 20, and purchase their workbook and textbook. The cost is $45 total for both texts (made payable to Christ the King). Over the course of this year, we will cover the first semester of high school Latin; next year, we will finish the first year so that the student who completes both years will be able to test into Latin II in high school. This will provide a comfortable pace for students who already have a full academic load during the day. Mrs. Roberts will be available to Latin students after school and on-line each day through Emodo, to which students will be provided access. Email Mrs Roberts at croberts@cktoledo.org with any questions.

ACCELERATED BOOK CLUB (ABC): Classic novels will be featured for 7th and 8th graders interested in great reading. The first two books to be studied will be Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain and To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Future reading material will include The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway, classic American poetry, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, and more. Interested students should meet with Mrs. Roberts after school by next Thursday, September 20. The books may be borrowed through the CK Library or brought from home. Informal study guides and conversation forums will be established online through Emodo, to which students will be provided access. E-mail Mrs. Roberts with any questions.

Reflections from the Spiritual Exercises

The world has forgotten the joys of silence, the peace of solitude, which is necessary, to some extent, for the fullness of human living.

A Thought for Moms from Mom's Group

High self-esteem is a feeling of total acceptance and love for yourself as you are.

It means respecting and valuing yourself as a worthwhile human being.

It means seeing your good and not-so-good qualities honestly. And it means  taking care of

and nurturing yourself so you can grow and become all you are capable of being!

NOTE FROM THE NURSE: Please see the ATTACHED form for more details about the Kohl's Kids in Action Day at Walbridge Park.

Divorced and Surviving

THE CATHOLIC'S DIVORCE SURVIVAL GUIDE is a great DVD series that has been made available to our parish.

This 12 week program features divorced Catholic men and women sharing their stories,

and a host of Catholic speakers, authors, spiritual directors and theologians who offer guidance in a down-to-earth, faith-filled manner.

It is designed to encourage and support the divorced or separated person through the rollercoaster emotional and painful experiences of this journey.

Topics in the series include:  shock, denial, fear, anger, depression, loneliness, financial changes, annulment, dating again, sex and court and custody issues.

The program is meant as an aid to the healing of the heart and soul using the principles of our Church to bring us to recognize

our GOD as THE LOVE THAT NEVER FAILS through the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, the teachings of Pope John Paul II (Theology of the Body), and the power of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

Rose Sweet is the powerhouse behind this series.  She is a speaker and author, who is also a divorced mom.

She offers her own experiences during and after her divorce as honest examples of mistakes and misconceptions.

And, she just as honestly describes the ultimate peace and healing she found in friends, family and her faith.

We would like to bring this wonderful program to anyone interested.

CONTACT:  Tom Marciniak, Pastoral Counselor at tmarciniak@ck.org; or, Debbie Lilje, Spiritual Director at deblil1@yahoo.com for more info.

We will hold a short Informational Meeting on Monday, October 1 at 7:30pm in the Parish Center

A Thought for Moms from the Mom's Group

What is the role of a wife and how can she fulfill this role?

Have you ever wondered what God's design is for you in your marriage

and how God wants you to fulfill your calling?

Ask Him!  It is very good prayer!

Seed for Contemplation

"Every aspect of creation is part of the unified whole revealing the rationality, freedom and creativity of God.

Each created thing in its own way tells us something about God and God's being shines from within created being."
