You are invited to attend a special two-day IPPS Area Meeting in beautiful Ottawa, Ontario.  Coach bus transportation and overnight hotel accommodations will be provided for those from western Ontario.  There will be an engaging educational program at the Delta Hotel the afternoon of July 25th followed by dinner together that evening where you can socialize and network with other green industry professionals. 

 

The next morning we will have the privilege of touring Rideau Hall's private gardens and greenhouses; Dominion Arboretum, the new green roof and green wall at the Algonquin College's new Center of Construction Excellence Building; and Ferguson Forest Centre where we will enjoy a tour and BBQ.  The bus will return to Milton by 6:00p.m.

 PROGRAM OF EVENTS    

 

WEDNESDAY, July 25

6:30 am       Load Bus: Landscape Ontario,  Milton, ON   

6:45 am       Bus Departs Landscape Ontario SHARP!

 

2:30-1:30pm  Registration and Lunch

Delta Hotel Ottawa City Centre, 101 Lyon Street, Ottawa  

 

Afternoon speakers will discuss composting nursery waste, designing and implementing a nursery bio-security plan, water treatment, propagation and insect control, invasive species and much more!   Click here for the program.  

   

6:30 pm  Dinner with speaker Ed Lawrence who will give a Gardener's View of the Nursery Industry

 

THURSDAY, July 26:  Tours

Tours depart at 7:00am with stops at:

Rideau Hall:   the official residence in Ottawa of both the Canadian monarch and the Governor General of Canada.  The grounds were originally styled as an English country estate. 

 

Dominion Arboretum is located at the Central Experimental Farm of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in Ottawa.  It displays a wide range of well-established trees and shrubs including 1,700 different species and varieties.       

  

Algonquin College's Centre for Construction Excellence is a showcase for sustainable construction practices and features a five-story biowall and green roof.

Ferguson Forest Centre is a non-profit tree nursery growing high quality ecologically suitable trees and shrubs from known seed sources.

   

The bus will leave to return to Milton at 2:00pm.
