A new and valuable tool for herbaceous perennial growers available free! 

A new University of Maryland Extension publication, Total Plant Management of Herbaceous Perennials, provides valuable information on insect and disease problems, biological and chemical control options, fertility management with emphasis on BMP, water management, weed control, and growth regulators.  It is the result of a joint effort of specialists from Virginia Tech, the University of Maryland and Cornell University.  Due to it's length, the publication must be downloaded in sections.  Click here for Part 1;  Click here for Part 2 and Click here for Part 3.  To purchase paper copies of this manual, call 301-596-9413.

IPPS Japan hosts International Tour and Conference:
October 20-28, 2012

USDA launches new, "more robust" Hardiness Zone Map

The new, interactive USDA Plant Hardiness Map divides regions into different growing zones based on the average lowest temperature.  Data from over thirty years of temperature records and satellite mapping gives greater detail to the map than the 1990 version. Users can now determine climate differences between zip codes, identifying heat and cool islands within a few miles. You can access the map and read more here...
