A new threat calling for an aggressive response.

The Horticulture Research Institute (HRI) has created  the Emerging Issues and Technology Projects Box Blight Fund to aid in tightening the research focus and accelerating the timeline for research results on the problem.  Click here for more.

Cape Cod Area Meeting: 
Save the Dates!

A unique two-day Area Meeting will be held on July 27 & 28 in eastern Massachusetts.  Day one will be at the Arnold Arboretum with talks, tours and ample time to explore the vast collections.

 On Day 2, attendees will drive across the Cape Cod canal to Sandwich, MA to visit the F.W. Schumacher seed company and other plant collections to be announced. 
Watch for details closer to the event and mark your calendars now! 

Ancient plant
How would YOU germinate a 32,000 year old seed?

Scientists in Russia have claimed to reproduce a narrow-leafed campion from seed stored in a squirrel's burrow some 32,000 years ago in the Siberian tundra, according to BBC mobile.  This would be the oldest plant by far that has ever been grown from ancient tissue.  Read more here...
