  Eastern Region Supports Research to Develop Stress Tolerant Landscape Plants

The IPPS Eastern Region Fund with the Horticultural Research Institute provided a 2010 research grant in the amount of $4,250.00 to the Landscape Plant Development Center in Mound, Minnesota.  The funding supports research to develop aesthetically superior landscape plants that are tolerant of biological and environmental stresses for all regions of the country.  The superior new plants developed directly benefit the bottom line of the members of the nursery industry.

Industry Power Shift Approaching

 Growers proved they weren't immune from change and accountability when retailers began putting downward pressure on them in the 1990s. Greenhouse Grower columnist and marketing consultant Jerry Montgomery says another power shift is coming, and it involves growers making suppliers just as accountable.

How Can Propagation Help?Canna

Cannas (Canna x generalis), is an herbaceous ornamental plant that has been inundated by virus problems worldwide in recent years.  The rather sudden rise in virus problems coincides with resurgence in popularity for this plant. Jim Harbage reports on how researchers at Longwood Gardens have used propagation to develop approaches for producing virus-free Cannas.
