True confessions -- a Move gone amuck!

Celebrate Canada Day and Summmer

You know the commercial where the person hits their forehead with their hand and says, "I should'a had a V8?"

With my experience during my recent move from a condo to a smaller condo, the action was the same, but my words were..."I should'a hired the Divas!"

Why do the shoemaker's children always have the worst shoes? Are the shoemakers so busy taking care of other people they leave their work until they have time...and they never have time?

After this move, there is one thing I know for sure...it is much easier to downsize and move when you have help. Don't get me wrong, I did have people ask if they could help! But, since I'm a bit of a CONTROL FREAK, I wanted to do everything myself.

Well, we've had a few laughs, at my expense, over the past couple of weeks at our office. At the end of my move day, everything I wanted to move to my new place had arrived, but I seemed to have brought a bit more than there was space for. There were a number of boxes containing stuff that was still looking for a landing spot.

I couldn't help but compare that to a move our Downsizing Diva team did last week. We were asked to help a client move from her home to a retirement residence - a task we've done hundreds of times before. But this time, we were working with the Power of Attorney to coordinate the move and the Divas and the PoA were in total control of what was going to be moved.

At the end of this client's move day, her new place looked fabulous! All the boxes had been unpacked and removed and there was just enough furniture to make the suite look comfortable and inviting. There was a place for everything and everything was in its place.

Sound familiar? It should because it was an almost perfect move!

At the end of her move day, when she returned with her friends, everyone was delighted. It looked and felt like "home". Now she's busy getting used to her new place while I'm still looking for storage spaces for all those extra things I thought I would need.

Hmmmm... shoemaker's children, indeed!

Moving thought for July:

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
