Weight-Lifting Divas!?

Diva with weights...

Funny, isn't it? Sometimes you really can't see the forest for the trees!" That's the thought that went through our minds a while back, when a friend described the Divas as..."Weight Lifters"!

"Weight lifters!", we scoffed, "No way!"

You see, the idea of us in tight-little spandex outfits, slugging barbells around was an image we just couldn't get our heads around. Of course, we were thinking inside the box or, in this case, living deep within the forest.

"Just a minute", our friend, Matthew Penstone, a marketing whiz, explained,  "What I mean is, as Downsizing Divas, you are always there to lift the weight from your client's minds, hearts and souls!"

Hmmmmm... of course we had never quite thought of the work we do as weight-lifting, but maybe it is. Then, we got thinking about some of the phrases we have heard from clients and family members, over the past 10 years...

  • "Knowing you have everything under control lifted a huge weight off my shoulders!"
  • "Worrying about finding places for all the stuff I don't want was weighing on my mind".
  • "Just talking about all my treasures makes it easier to let some of them go - I feel lighter already."
  • "Now my sister and I can enjoy our visits with Mum knowing we can leave all the rest of the work to the Divas! Whew! What a relief!"

Now, we're thinking of ourselves as "weight-lifters" and, who knows maybe those tight, little spandex outfits might not be far behind.

Perish the thought!!

New Circles Prom Dress Drive...

can you help?

Downsizing Diva has community spirit and we love discovering new resources to help us help our clients find homes for items they no longer want, use or need.

One such resource is NEW CIRCLES, a not-for-profit social service agency that strives to help residents of the City of Toronto, with a focus on those residing in the Flemingdon Park, Thorncliffe Park and Victoria Village communities. Their primary service is a clothing program which provides new and gently used clothing for men, women and children.

At this time of the year, the New Circles team is working feverishly to stock their PROM BOUTIQUE and looking for gently used prom wear - for girls and guys!!

Last year, their PROM BOUTIQUE helped over 350 students; unfortunately, the demand exceeded the supply! That's where you might be able to help!

If you have prom dresses, suits, shirts, shoes, accessories, ties, purses, jewellery and/or new make-up that you would like to donate, here's some good news...

JD and Marian at Sleuth of Baker Street (907 Millwood Road) have generously offered to accept your prom donations at their bookstore every Thursday,Friday, Saturday (10am to 6pm) and Sunday (noon to 4pm) during March. There is parking available.

If these times don't work, call Lu Mitchell at New Circles (416) 422-2591 to find out how to get your donations directly to New Circles.

To learn more about our new pals, check out www.newcircles.ca and www.sleuthofbakerstreet.ca - working hard to make a difference in our community!

"Beware the Ides of March"

Did you know...?

  • The Ides of March was just another date on the Roman calendar until the fateful day in 44 B.C. when Julius Caesar was assassinated.
  • The soothsayer's warning to Julius Caesar, "Beware the Ides of March," has forever imbued that date with a sense of foreboding.
  • The word Ides comes from the Latin word "Idus" and means "half division" and the word was used widely in the Roman calendar indicating the approximate day that was the middle of the month.
  • The term "ides" is used for the 15th day of the months of March, May, July, and October, and the 13th day of the other months.

DIVA Thought for March...

May the luck of the Irish be there with you.
