2012 - An EXCELLENT Adventure!

Although we are not big fans of New Year's Resolutions, we do love blank pages, fresh journals and brand new beginnings.

As we blast into 2012, we thought it would be fun to have a THEME. As many of you know, we have been on one giant learning curve over the past few years - combining our businesses, learning to work with a Business Partner, a Bookkeeper and a team of Divas, creating a franchise opportunity and... awarding FIVE franchises!

So, the THEME we have selected for this year is "The EXCELLENT Adventure". Downsizing Diva is rockin'.

This year begins with our Annual Downsizing Diva pilgrimage to the National Association of Senior Move Managers Conference to be held in Austin, Texas. YEE HAW!

This tradition began in 2010, when TWO Divas -- Gail and Karen -- attended their first NASMM Conference in Las Vegas. The Divas and their boas had their debut and a few purple feathers flew!

The next year, FOUR Divas - Gail, Karen, Judi, Gerine -- attended NASMM Conference in Florida and Conference attendees couldn't help but notice the purple Diva entourage and more floating purple feathers.

This year, we're thrilled to report SIX Divas - Gail, Karen, Judi, Brenda, Carol, Evelyn -- are heading to Austin and they're ready to see and be seen! Watch for photos, fun and frolic in our February Newsletter!

We love what we do...and the people we do it with!

Downsizing Diva is participating in the Alzheimer Society of Toronto's "Walk for Memories" on Saturday, January 28th, 2012. This walk raises awareness and funds to continue Alzheimer research and provide support for families and caregivers.

Beginning mid-January, Judi, Marcia and Karen are in a CTV commercial to promote this event. If you look carefully - and quickly - you might recognize us... we are just behind Andria Case, a CTV Anchor! The photo at the beginning of this Newsletter was taken on the day of the filming so you can what we look like in our Alzheimer Toronto t-shirts!

We were thrilled to hear from one of our favourite pals telling us she is part of The Dunfield Retirement Residence Team for this fund-raising event.

We have always said we meet the best people doing the work we do and we laughed right out loud when we read her email:

Remember me?

Good...your long-term memory is still intact. Sarcasm intended!

Again this year, a group of us from TOPH is forming a team to participate in "a warm indoor walk through the PATH system" on January 28th.  We will be joining other walkers of all ages/stages/modes of transportation to raise money for Alzheimer Research. We have been given snappy-looking Dunfield scarves to wear for this 45-minute trek.

Did I mention that my walking partner is 92 years old? While I am working out on the treadmill (dreadmill?), my friend will be oiling up her walker and packing her puffer. She is a great friend, and very funny: she has a CAA sticker on her walker in case of mechanical failure en route.

Of course, the reference to TOPH puzzled me when she first used the term a couple of years ago. She tells me it stands for "The Old People's Home" and, for those who have had any experience with The Dunfield and this particular resident - they know it's very "tongue-in-cheek". The Dunfield is an amazing Retirement Residence and anything but "TOPH!

In Canada, ONE person is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia every FIVE minutes. That's why Alzheimer Research is important to all of us!

Alzheimer support means the world to us...

THANKS from the bottom of our hearts!

DIVA Thought for January...

While we are attending the NASMM Conference in Texas, our American collogues will be celebrating Martin Luther King Day -- Monday, January 16th.

Here's to first steps...

Take the first step in faith.

You don't have to see the whole staircase,

just take the first step."

~Martin Luther King Jr.~

Go ahead, make our day!

If you know someone who would enjoy reading about Downsizing Diva, we would love it if you would help us spread the word by sending them a copy of this Newsletter.

Just like the shampoo commercial where the woman says, "I told 2 friends and they told 2 friends and they told 2 friends..."

We'd be thrilled if you told your friends or family members! Then, they can enjoy the tips, tricks and techniques we use to help people simplify, organize, lighten-up, downsize and move!!!

Here's to taking the first step!

simply yours...
