PLEASE  renew your Oregon Pediatric Society membership NOW!

OPS has sent several communications about membership renewal.  We have converted our entire membership from an anniversary to a calendar renewal date.  Therefore, almost every OPS member has an outstanding balance of 2 or more months to pay in order to catch up to our calendar date of January 1st.

If you have not received your bill, please contact Pamela Jones at [email protected] to request your login information which will show you your outstanding amount in order to remain a member.

Or, simply visit the login page on our website HERE and when prompted, click on forgot your password.  This will guide you through the process and once you go to the transactions section of our membership database, you should see an open ticket for your membership dues.  You will then have the ability to print and send in with a check, or pay online via credit card.

Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation.

CATCH Grant Story, A FEARsome Clinic

What is the FEARsome clinic? It is an intake clinic for children who have gone into foster care. While the FEAR stands for Foster Education and Resources, it is called FEARsome because we believe our foster parents are fearsome in their advocacy for their foster children and our foster children need to learn how to be fearsome by gaining in self esteem and self confidence. The official first day of the clinic was May 1 but the development of this project has taken years and many steps. It grew out of...READ FULL STORY HERE

OPS Member, Past-President

Accepts Position in Washington D.C.

David W. Willis, M.D., FAAP, our Past President of the OPS and current Chair of the AAP's Early Brain and Child Development Leadership Work Group has just been named as the new Director of Division of Early Childhood and Home Visiting Systems within the Maternal Child Health Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in Washington, DC.

This opportunity builds upon his local, state, and national leadership in child health reform and his commitment to the essential collaborations between the child health system and the early childhood communities for building physical, developmental and relational health of the next generation of our nation's children.

In his new role, Dr. Willis will drive a vision for comprehensive connections between home visiting systems, the early childhood systems and the medical home with a special emphasis on the "First 1000 Days" and the earliest relational and attachments experiences. He will be leaving Oregon in July to assume this new leadership role both with excitement for his new adventure and with sadness for leaving Oregon - his patients, families, colleagues, partners and the OPS.  If you would like to wish him well, please send him an email at [email protected].

Gately Academy

If you are seeing kids in your practice that are having learning or socio-emotional difficulties in school and parents are looking for alternatives, we would like to invite you to suggest Gately Academy - a private middle school serving grades 5-8. The School provides small classes, tailored curriculum and a strong social learning component designed to help kids develop self-esteem when they most need it.

We at Gately are now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year and hope you will refer families with children with learning differences to our program.

Gately is holding an Open House for parents at the School where the families you refer can learn about the program, meet the staff and talk with parents of current students about the School. They are scheduled for 6:30-8:00PM on June 20th. If you should have any questions about the School or its programs visit our website at www.gatelyacademy.org or feel free to contact Susan Decker at 503.215.2672.
