Attn: ALL OPS MEMBERS!
PLEASE renew your membership NOW!

OPS has sent several E-communications as well as snail mail notices about membership renewal.  We have converted our entire membership from an anniversary to a calendar renewal date.  Therefore, almost every OPS member has an outstanding balance of 2 or more months to pay in order to catch up to our calendar date of January 1st.  If you have not received your bill, please contact Wayland Ellison at waylaid.ellison@oraap.org to request your login information which will show you your outstanding amount in order to remain a member.  Or, simply visit the login page on our website HERE  and when prompted, click on forgot your password.  This will guide you through the process and once you go to the transactions section of our membership database, you should see an open ticket for your membership dues.  Thank you so much for your patience and cooperation.

EASY to help OPS at NO cost to you!

Please register at www.goodsearch.com and type 'Oregon Pediatric Society' when asked for which charity you would like to benefit.  Then, instead of using google or yahoo or other search engines when conducting your web searches, use www.goodsearch.com.  (Change your web settings so this opens as your homepage or default search engine). Every time you do a search, OPS will earn 1 cent!  This could add up to a lot, monthly, for OPS.  Thank you SO much for making this small change that can make a big impact on a small non-profit.

Planned Asthma Care

By: Jennifer Lail, MD, Jim Stout, MD, and Sandra Miller, MD

Caring for children and youth with asthma in a primary care, non-specialty setting requires creation of office protocols to permit scheduled and planned asthma visits. In contrast with the acute care setting, chronic care management visits permit non-emergent assessment of the child's condition and family/child asthma education.

BREASTFEEDING
Why Pediatricians Say Breast-Feeding is About Public Health, Not Just Lifestyle
In a quietly worded statement released this month, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has recalibrated the national dialogue on breast-feeding, deeming it a "public health issue and not only a lifestyle choice."

New Statements from the AAP

The AAP will publish the policy statement, "Breastfeeding and the Use of Human Milk" in the March 2012 Pediatrics.  The policy is a revision of the Academy's 2005 policy statement on the same topic.  An early release copy of the statement can be found here.  The revised statement reflects new research and national strategies, including the 2011 Surgeon General's Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding, documenting the benefits of breastfeeding for infants, mothers, families and society.
