Dear Friends,
Last week, Veterans Day was observed to pay tribute to all of those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. As we paused to honor more than 23 million Veterans in our country and around the world, I proudly thought of my father. With such a strong military presence in our Twin Cedars' communities, we have many employees who are retired from service. Additionally, TCYFS employees have spouses, siblings, and children who are protecting our freedom today and are on active duty status.
This month's newsletter features several Veterans dear to our Twin Cedars Team Members. I hope you enjoy this special edition.
Grateful for the contributions of Veterans,
Mike Angstadt, Executive Director

R.E.A.L. Resident Empowerment & Leadership Committee
established at Bradfield Campus
Under the guidance of Dr. Ken Genova, the REAL Committee has been established to help residents who live at the Bradfield Center model positive behavior and develop leadership skills. REAL is an acronym for Resident Empowerment & Leadership Committee. Residents can be nominated (by TCYFS staff) for two levels of membership including General and Resident Advisor.
This model will allow Bradfield Residents to assume greater control of their lives while in treatment. There are currently 18 active members of REAL who have been accepted to the committee and 3 nominations pending approval.
The committee will follow the REAL Way Volunteer activities that are sponsored, coordinated and encouraged by the committee. The purpose of volunteer activities is to benefit the resident, the resident families and the greater community.
The committee will publish the REAL Deal A monthly newsletter sponsored, organized and written by the committee to highlight activities of the committee as well as the Bradfield Campus.
Each month the REAL One will be selected by the Resident Advisory Committee who is not currently a member of the general membership who best epitomizes a desire to improve himself, or has demonstrated leadership skills. With seed money from Dr. Genova, the REAL Room has been created to help students learn proper dining skills. A desk area has been included to promote enhanced study skills, and the room will also serve as a dedicated space for committee meetings. Lastly, a television has been added for recreational times.

Red Ribbon Week in Review- Bradfield Center Red Ribbon week is an engaging and fun way to learn about the importance of living drug free. It allows our residents to join with millions across the country to express their support of the nation's most visible awareness campaigns. Each day of the week students celebrated with a special theme. On Friday, the boys participated in a special balloon release. Red balloons were released in honor of those living a drug free life. The release of blue balloons commemorated the loss of DEA Officer Enrique "kiki" Camerina which fueled the formation of the national campaign. |

Charlie House nominated for Georgia CASA'S Karen N. Sibley Volunteer of the Year Award
Charlie has served as a CASA volunteer since 2003. When Chattahoochee CASA was formed under the Twin Cedars umbrella in July of 2009, Charlie was instrumental in program development as well as taking cases and volunteering to assist in United Way site reviews. Over the past year, Charlie has advocated for six children involved in juvenile court deprivation hearings and to date has helped three of those find permanency. CASA Coordinator Rosalind Alston stated, "Other volunteers look up to Charlie and respect his experience and enthusiasm of the program in which he believes can make a difference for our community's most vulnerable children. Charlie is a strong candidate for this award and we look forward to supporting him in every way possible as he continues his volunteer advocacy work for children in need.
