| A TRIBUTE To Dorothy Wells Knight |
In October, friends, family, and chosen charities gathered at a Tribute Dinner in Columbus, Georgia, to celebrate and honor the life of Dorothy Wells Knight. Prior to her death in 1989 she established a Unitrust to be settled 20 years later. As a recipient of the Unitrust, Twin Cedars will receive a donation that will serve as a springboard to purchase a facility that will house the Children's Tree House Advocacy Center, TRUST Prevention Program, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and Community Couseling. Twin Cedars plans to name the building the Dorothy Wells Knight Community Center. |

Georgia Industial Children's Home - An Extreme Makeover |
|

The Georgia Industrial Children's Home in Macon has been undergoing major renovations over the past year. During the month of March, the kitchen was completely refurbished with grant funding from the Community Foundation of Central Georgia.
Additional projects during 2009 include complete renovations of GEICO and Lions Cottages. We anticipate that residents will be able to move into their new cottages before Christmas.
(KITCHEN BEFORE)
In the coming months Anderson and McCommon Cottages will get a new coat of paint as well as new carpeting and flooring. Executive Director Mike Angstadt shared, "Sadly, there will always be children who need our help. With the recent renovations at the Georgia Industrial Children's Home we can now offer them a place that feels as much like home as possible."

| Georgia Tech Creates a "Buzz" at the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home |
Georgia Tech Alumni recently hosted "Buzz Day" at the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home campus in Columbus, Georgia. Residents enjoyed a cookout, face painting and a variety of games. The girls recovering at the home invited family members to attend. The Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home has been serving young girls in need dating back to 1848. We appreciate the local Georgia Tech Alumni for coordinating this event for the 6th consecutive year. For more information contact Lynne Taylor at (706) 322-8984 or ltaylor@twincedars.org |
| Court Appointed Special Advocates -- One Year Later |
Chattahoochee CASA was established under the umbrella of Twin Cedars in 2008 to recruit and train volunteers to advocate for children involved in juvenile court deprivation hearings. One year later, CASA has 21 volunteers that are currently serving 40 children. A swearing-in ceremony for volunteers who have recently completed training was held November 30 at the Columbus Public Safety Center. To date, CASA has certified 41 volunteers and has served a total of 46 children. CASA is supported in part by the United Way of the Chattahoochee Valley, National CASA and Georgia CASA. With almost 300 children in state custody in Muscogee County, there is a cruicial need to recruit more volunteers. If you are interested please contact Rosalind Alston at 706.327.9612 or email ralston@twincedars.org. You can be the difference between abuse and hope.

| Twin Cedars Hosts "Bonding Day" at the Challenge Ropes Course |
Trained facilitators from Twin Cedars recently led 50 members of Youth Leadership Columbus through Bonding Day in a series of outdoor teambuilding activities at the Challenge Ropes Course. Activities were designed to help groups build communication skills, form cohesiveness, and implement problem solving. From engaging on-the-ground initiatives to the fifty foot zip line, participants were also able to experience risk-taking, decision-making and conflict management. The Challenge Ropes Course is located on the campus of the Anne Elizabeth Shepherd Home. If you are interested in learning more about the program please contact Mike Angstadt at (706) 298-0050. | |

Circle of Care was formed in 1997 to address the issue of rising repeat pregnancy rates in Troup County. Services include helping teens maintain school enrollment or G.E.D. course completion, home-based parent education, parent/child group activities and transportation services. New to the Circle of Care program is Mission Year volunteer Margaretta Maxon. She recently helped to coordinate a cooking demonstration for 7 moms and 8 babies at the Coleman Center. The demonstration kitchen was the perfect setting for a guest cook from Jenny Jack Farms to prepare an organic Thanksgiving meal. Overall, Circle of Care is serving 30 famlies.
