You know the DSR Clinic and Method are different than traditional rehabilitation!  Please read this interview in a national PT magazine with Dr. Matthew Taylor.  It is a great way to explain the DSR Method when you share your experiences with family and friends.

Making Sense of Senselessness

The events here in Arizona earlier this month defied reason and I suspect caused all of us to pause at least momentarily. Why? Who? Whose fault? How to prevent?

All good questions to consider, but in the end, what changes to make ourselves and our communities safer and our democracy healthier?
Brene Brown

Here at the DSR Clinic we like to ask questions, but not dictate answers. You have the capability, privilege and responsibility to develop your own answers. May I suggest there might be value and insight in taking 20 minutes to consider Dr Brene Brown's short story of the power of vulnerability to improve not only our personal health, but our community's health?

I think you'll be amazed to hear the science behind dropping our armor of being right/sure and engaging in a new way with ourselves first, and then one another. Full of humor and wit, it is a great investment in searching for answers to things that don't make sense.

We are also excited to offer two very different programs here at the DSR Clinic next month. Please scroll down and consider both as great ways to invigorate your health early in 2011.

As always, we'd like to hear what you what you want to learn more about, what was useful to you in this newsletter and any DSR Method success stories you would like to share with others.

The Winter Thriving Guide Series is a series of 4 upbeat, fun 75-minute classes led by registered dietitian and Yoga teacher Chrissy Barth, RD, CFT, RYT and physical therapist and Yoga teacher, Meagen Satinsky, PT, CYT who are both here to offer you valuable tips and    support in helping YOU thoroughly enjoy this  winter season. The classes will include education, mindbody practices, and gentle  movementactivities for all levels of activity.

As we prepare to cycle through the winter season, we are easily influenced by residual holiday temptations, fewer hours of sunlight and activity, packed schedules and trying to carve out space to follow through with resolutions intended for the year. This series offers valuable tips and support in helping YOU cultivate and maintain your intention through the winter months and move into a lighter spring.

Laughter Yoga!!! sangeeta

Do you want to feel better?

Do you want to feel good?

Then Come and enjoy the joy of laughter with Laughter Yoga!

What is Laughter Yoga?

Laughter Yoga is a unique exercise routine which combines unconditional laughter with yogic breathing. You do not need jokes, a sense of humor or comedy. It is a group exercise where you laugh with people!

The benefits of Laughter Yoga are many such as feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, improvement in personal and social life and developing the ability to laugh in the face of challenges to name a few.

Science has proved that the body cannot differentiate between simulated and real laughter but the physiological and psychological benefits are the same.Hearty Group laughter has profound short and long term effects on our mind and body:

Anti stress -

Unwinds the negative effects of stress by reducing stress related hormones and peptide levels.

 Feel Good Hormones-

It releases endorphins, the feel good hormone. Endorphins create a positive state of mind and boost optimism, self confidence and feelings of self worth.

Immune System- Quickly boosts our immune system with increase in levels of anti viral and anti infection cells and also cells that fight cancer.

Oxygen and Aerobic Exercise- Laughter provides an excellent cardio and mind body workout. The heart rate increases in one minute of hearty laughter can take ten minutes to achieve on exercise machines.

Given all these benefits, lets use Laughter as our best medicine!

She has extensive experience working with the adult population in a variety of settings and has also worked with the pediatric age group. Her accomplishment at the end of each day is the look of success and gratitude in the eyes of her clients.

Sangeeta is a registered Yoga teacher, Certified Laughter Yoga Leader, and has been practicing Yoga Therapy. Her strong belief in the human body's own healing capacity and that "Happiness and Relaxation can be felt at the cellular level" has prompted her to start her own work on "The Universal Connection to Health." Our bodies need a positive "internal environment" to create a path for long-term health. Laughter Yoga creates an ideal external environment where one can laugh for no reason at all!

Details: Wednesday Evenings, 7-8 pm at the DSR Clinic beginning February 2nd. First class is complimentary. Follow up classes are $15/each. Please call the office, 480-699-4867 to register for your class or to get more information!

What better way is there to reach our goal of long term good health than by laughing our way to it!

We hope you finding rest and renewal in the cool fresh days of winter and the brisk evenings. Make time for silence and to listen before we move back into the longer days of heat and "doing."
