Dear Edgewood Families,
Many, many thanks from the Parent Group to all the parents, grandparents friends and community members that helped out and attended Fun at Heart on February 5th. We had beautiful weather and a great turnout for a fun-filled evening. Everyone bought tickets, dinner and auction items making Fun at Heart a hugely successful event, even in th ese tough economic times. We took in just over $20K, which is in line with amounts from previous years (actually a bit over last year's total) and we still have auction items left for purchase. So thank you all for supporting Edgewood Community Elementary School but attending and helping out with Fun at Heart.
Thanks, Lynn |
It is READ-A-THON time again! The reading booklets and the sponsorship envelopes should be home. Please encourage your children to read and fill out the reading booklets for every 20 mins (K,1,2) or 40 mins (3,4,5) they read or you read to them. Bring the booklets to school often and for each reading segment the student will get a stamp and a raffle ticket for a chance to win bookstore gift certificates plus they will get to put a "Jewel" in the Quads Jewel Jar. Lets try and fill those Jars up as quick as possible!
Volunteers are needed for about 25 mins each morning! We need 2 volunteers in each Quad from 8:10-8:35 every morning to stamp students reading books, handout "Jewels" and raffle tickets. If you can stick around a little after dropping off the kids, please sign up for a volunteer slot or two (or three). Thanks!

Read Naturally Tutors Needed
This last term we were very fortunate to have 6 Eugene General's hockey players come to Edgewood and help with Read Naturally. Their season is in full swing now and they won't be able to help out with Read Naturally. We are in need of reading volunteers on
Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 11:30-12:00 or on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 1:00-1:30.
If any one these days/times work for you we could use your help. This is a fun, easy way to make a big difference in the life of a child. Please let me know if you are interested so I can set up a time to introduce you to this easy to learn program. Christy Warne 541-790-8700 warne@4j.lane.edu |
Dear Kinder Friends and Families,
Please keep this information in a visible place and note this on your calendar. On March 12 , district wide, we have a half day of school it is called a Planning Day. Due to the unique schedule of two session Kindgergarten Programs this impacts the equity of our school days. We have decided to use this schedule: On Thursday March 11th The Afternoon Kindergarten is in Session (not morning.) On Friday March 12th The Morning Kindergarten is in Session (not afternoon.) The YMCA will support previously enrolled children during their off day. Private childcares need to be notified by you. School bus pick up and drop off will remain the same. This is often a challenge, how to make our schedule mesh with district scheduling for planning days- thanks for your understanding and flexibility.

When kids put their minds to it they can accomplish great things!
Malia Labrousse Eugene, OR 97405 Doctors Without Borders USA Hagerstown, MD 21741-5030 February 25, 2010 To Whom It May Concern, My name is Malia Labrousse and I'm a 4th grader at Edgewood Community Elementary School in Eugene, Oregon. I felt really upset when I learned about the disaster in Haiti and wanted to help. So I started a coin drive at my school to help people in Haiti get better. I chose Doctors Without Borders because you were already in Haiti helping and also because I feel that you are very trustworthy organization and you will use the money I send very wisely. To get things started I delivered a labeled jar to each classroom, and gave a mini presentation about the drive and what we all could do to help. Kids were emptying their piggy banks and asking their parents if they could donate money to help the people of Haiti. The whole school collected $578.85. I enclosed a cashier's check and a personal check both totaling $578.85. (my goal was 4 hundred dollars) which I would like to go into helping the Haitians get their basic needs met(food, water, medical care, etc.) and rebuild what has been destroyed. If you have any updates please report back so I can share it with my classmates. Sincerely, Malia Labrousse
Great Job Malia! |

Edgewood's Annual Book Exchange
It's that time again - time to share the joy of reading through the Edgewood Book Exchange! Here's how it works. You help your child participate by having them select 2 or more quality books that are in good condition (paperback or hardbound) from his/her bookshelf at home.
These books will be collected in our classrooms from
Monday, March 1st- Monday, March 8th.
On the evening of Tuesday, March 9th at our annual Literacy night each child will get to choose a book to keep. Our book exchange promotes sharing books we have loved with friends and continuing the love of reading with a 'new' book! |

We will be sharing all the important information, sending paperwork home with you and answering any questions you have. I am looking forward to sharing all the fun we have planned.
Thanks for all you do,
