Greetings ,
We are pleased to send you our all-new Northwest Trail Alliance
e-newsletter. You are receiving this e-mail because you are either a
NWTA member, a former PUMP member, or you signed up for our e-mail list
at one of our events or rides.
We hope that this newsletter will be a convenient way to stay up-to-date on any news about mountain biking and off-road cycling in Portland, NW Oregon and SW Washington. Our goal
is to focus on updates about trail conditions, upcoming rides and trail
work parties, and provide you the latest news about our advocacy
and rider education efforts.
While we plan to send out only
one e-newsletter per month, you might occasionally receive a special
e-mail alert about a topic that requires your immediate attention or
action.
Feel free to send us your feedback or ideas on how we can make our
newsletter and e-mail alerts even better and more relevant. And if you
like to contribute - as a writer or editor - please shoot us an email. Like working the

Action Alert for Forest Park: Make your voice heard!
We need your help on an
urgent issue. Over the last few months, Northwest Trail Alliance
and its partners have made great strides towards the goal of
increasing trail riding opportunities in the City of Portland,
including Forest Park.
As mentioned in an earlier post on our web site by Tom Archer, a task force
was formed by Portland Parks & Recreation (PPR) with the
specific charge of identifying options for increasing the amount of
single track open to bicyclists in Forest Park by the summer of
2010. Board members of NWTA and other cycling advocates are on this committee and are working hard to see that
this mission fulfilled. This process is already underway and will
continue over the winter. However, certain committee members oppose
our efforts and are attempting to slow down or even stall the process!
We need your help! Our public officials need to hear from the off-road cycling community during this critical juncture.
Please write or call your elected representatives today expressing
your support for the Forest Park initiatives. Click here for the contact
information of Mayor Sam Adams and other Portland City Commissioners,
along with some talking points that you can include in your letter.

Mark Your Calendar: Nov 24 - NWTA General Meeting & Board Elections.
On November 24th, at our annual general meeting, NWTA members will get the opportunity to vote for their candidates of choice for four open positions on NWTA's Board of Directors.
At the same meeting, members will get to vote on an revamped set of bylaws that will account for NWTA's recent chapter agreement with IMBA and other changes to streamline our organizational structure and processes.
The new (proposed) bylaws will be published in the coming week on our web site. Prospective board members are asked to submit their candidacy to the current board of directors by sending an email to directors@nw-trail.org, with a brief summary of 1) the reason(s) you like to serve on the board, 2) any relevant experience and/or skills you bring to the board, and 3) your personal connection with mountain biking and trail advocacy. Applications for the open board positions need to be submitted the latest by Sunday Nov 15.

Exciting Trail News: "Plains of Abraham" trail (WA) named latest IMBA Epic!
Some liken it to riding on the moon. It might be, since riding across
the Plains of Abraham is riding on one of the newest landscapes in the
lower 48 states. Wiped by searing heat, pelted by hot rocks, and washed
clean by mudflows from melted glaciersthe Plains were sterilized on May
18, 1980 by Mount St Helensleaving few recognizable landmarks. What was
left is one of the most unique riding areas anywhere. Vegetation is now
returning after 30 years, the early summer wildflower display rivals

Upcoming Events:
Mount Hood Work Party & Shuttle Ride - Sat 10/24, 9:30am
NWTA will assist Forest Service Trails Coordinator Jim Thornton with a work party on the Bottle Prarie Trail, off Road 44.
Depending on weather, we will arrange vehicles to finish the work party with a ride down Dog River.
XC Singletrack Trail Building at Stub Steward SP - Sun 10/25, 11/8 and 11/22
Join Stub Steward trail guru Joe Rykowski and his gang for a morning of
building all-new, mountain bike specific trails in Oregon's newest
State Park, less than an hour west of Portland.
NWTA Monthly Meeting & Social - Tue 10/28, 7:30pm
Join us at the NW Lucky Lab for an update on all the things we've
been up to, including ongoing advocacy projects, passdowns from the
board, upcoming rides and trail work parties. There will aso be plenty
of social
time to connect with fellow mountain bikers and trail advocates.
