Pain Keeps Me From Exercising As Much as I Should...
Pain is one of the most common problems and frustrations people experience in trying to put together an exercise routine that works. Whether it's arthritis, an injury, a chronic condition or an unknown cause that's bothering you, Wellness Concepts offers natural treatment options that really work. And instead of just temporarily numbing symptoms, these treatments work with your body to promote natural healing processes and provide lasting relief.
We offer a number of different solutions, from topical and oral, to biopuncture, an incredibly effective series of natural injections. Dr. Plotkin is arguably the nation's pre-eminent biopuncture physician, and collaborates and works frequently in conjunction with Dr. Kerschott, the Belgian creator of this technique! Biopuncture has been gaining popularity in the U.S. and our patients are continually telling us what a difference it has made in getting them back in the game. In fact, the popular television program, Dr. Oz, recently did an entire show on biopuncture! To watch the episode, click on the links below! I Don't Have the Time or a Place to Work Out...
Most of us don't consistently have the time or resources to spend an hour a day training at the gym, and for those who travel frequently, even a brisk walk around the block can be complicated. But exercise doesn't have to be all or nothing, and the truth is, there are many simple exercise routines that can be done quickly and easily in your own home (or even hotel room) with minimal materials - and still be beneficial.
Dr. Plotkin often recommends a series of exercises (with available modifications) that can provide an excellent workout for all fitness levels and age groups, using only a sturdy chair, a towel or yoga mat, and a comfortable spot on the floor. To obtain a complete list and instructions on this routine, contact our office at 630.587.4338.
I Get Bored of My Exercise Routine...
Working out doesn't have to consist of jogging yourself into a stupor on the treadmill, while counting down the seconds to freedom. Break out of your routine and try something new! Exercise can be anything from playing tennis or swimming to a dance or yoga class...or even taking the stairs instead of the elevator (assuming it's more than just a flight or two you're skipping!)...Just get moving!
Looking for a place to try close by? Try checking with your local park district for their seasonal class offerings or try out our featured local business: Prana Yoga Center in Geneva, IL. Prana offers numerous types of yoga classes for all skill levels, taught by highly trained teachers who make classes accessible and fun!

I Don't Have the Time to Eat Healthy...
Remember the old girl scout motto, "Be Prepared"? So true. Planning ahead really can solve a multitude of problems. Many of us don't have time to create healthy meals for our our lunches and dinners every day, so we fall into the fast food rut. Try planning meals for the week in advance, when it's easier to think healthy. Map out the days with fresh, whole foods heavy on produce and lean meats, not fat and simple carbs (which many convenience foods are full of). Then go grocery shopping (when you're not hungry!) and get only things on your list (be sure to plan some healthy snacks as well).
Then set aside one day of the week to prep everything for the entire week, if possible. Do all the chopping, slicing, and dicing you can ahead of time, so mornings and pre-dinner times are much less hectic.
If eating out is a must, take advantage of all the new technology available online or on that smartphone. There are numerous mobile apps that give you info on hidden calories and fat content in foods at tons of chain restaurants, help you set goals, keep track of dietary intake, chart progress and more...and many are free!
Sure, it's great to buy local and organic food, but where do I find it? And is it really that important anyways?
Research is providing more and more reasons why it's so important to avoid processed foods, certain fats and sugars, and even plastic and aluminum packaging. These seemingly harmless things contain toxic ingredients that can affect not just our weight, but overall health, chronic immune conditions, and even fertility. One of the best ways to know what you're eating, is to know exactly where it comes from. We've provided a list below of some spots to find local and/or organic products. Don't think of them as just stores though - these places can be resources for tons of local natural connections, and some even offer cooking classes, events and weekly delivery right to your front door!
