| Tuscany Trip Deadline Extended to July 31 | | |
Time is running out to register to join us on our Tuscany Adventure November 1 - 8, 2012. My friend Michelle Biggs had the opportunity to travel to Tuscany last fall.
"Last fall, we offered our first international trip, working with ABC Destinations. Thirty-five travelers from throughout St. Tammany and surrounding areas ventured on a 9-day tour of Tuscany, Italy. With a base hotel in Montecatini Terme, they explored such beautiful and historic areas as Florence, Siena and San Gimiganano. Not only were there several business leaders that made the trip, but many area residents took advantage of the incredible savings to travel with loved ones ... including a mother/son duo, a daughter/father duo, several sisters, best friends, and retired couples.
The feedback that we received was overwhelming. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their trip and had nothing but good things to say about ABC Destinations, from the hotel accommodations, to the tour guides and bus driver. The travelers made life-long friends and several are looking forward to traveling together again on one of our next tours. "
- Michelle Biggs, Communications and Administrative Officer, St. Tammany West Chamber of Commerce,
Louisiana
This eight day, six night experience includes sightseeing in Florence, Montecatini, Cinque Terre, Siena & San Gimignano and Rome. Sights include the Leaning Tower of Pisa, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Accademia, Palazzo Vecchio, the Vatican, and St. Peter's Basilica. Sites now include the Colosseum and the Roman Forum.
The $2,499 trip price includes bus transportation to JFK, round trip airfare to Italy (air taxes are included), hotel accommodations, a wine tasting, guided excursions, daily breakfasts, four dinners and admissions to the Accademia and the Vatican Museum. Among the three optional tours offered is the opportunity to partake in a three hour Tuscan Cooking Class where you will learn the basics of traditional Tuscan cooking as well as savour the foods you prepare. Click here for additional information about the trip.
July 31 is the deadline to register. The trip is being offered in partnership with Kish Travel and the Bedford County Chamber of Commerce. We hope to see you in Italy! |

LHC Recruits Leadership Class of 2013 | | |
Leadership Steering Committee Chair, County Planning Director, Richard Stahl announced today that Leadership Huntingdon County continues to recruit the Leadership Class of 2013. Stahl indicated that this will be the seventh class for Leadership Huntingdon County. Stahl said, "We are looking for 15 people who are willing to learn - to learn about their community, to learn about themselves and to learn about leadership." The deadline for applications is August 17th.
The program is sponsored by the Huntingdon County Chamber of Commerce and is an outgrowth of the Huntingdon County Partnership for Economic Progress Strategic Plan. One hundred ten individuals have graduated the program to date.
Stahl points out that Leadership Huntingdon County is not just for corporate managers. Nor is it just for business. The community knowledge, leadership skills and networking resources developed through Leadership Huntingdon County can be applied in all areas of life, at work, at home and as a community volunteer.

The Leadership Huntingdon County class will meet one evening per month from September through May. To kick off the program there will be an evening reception and one-day retreat early in September. Two local field trips are planned. The fall field trip will focus on learning about the County's heritage, while the spring field trip will focus on recreation and tourism.
Leadership Huntingdon County is a comprehensive leadership development program open to anyone living and/or working in the Huntingdon County. Anyone who wants to make a difference in their community or develop their personal leadership potential is encouraged to apply.

Health Care Reform | | |
Health care reform is a topic that is on everyone's mind, and for good reason. As we move through 2012, there are several events that will determine exactly what health care reform will look like in 2014, the first full year of full reform implementation as spelled out in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) legislation that President Barack Obama signed into law more than two years ago.
For more information on how changes in health care are beginning to impact employers, read the June Smart Business Article by Chuck Whitford, a client advisor with JRG Advisors, the management arm of ChamberChoice. |
| Small Business Outlook Survey - July 2012 | | |

Key Findings Flat Economic Growth and Uncertainty Continues to Limit Hiring

- Eight-out-of-ten small businesses continue to think the national economy is off on the wrong track and more than half (53%) of small businesses surveyed cite economic uncertainty as their top concern. Only 14% say the national economy is on the right track.

- Following the Supreme Court's decision on the President's health care law, only 3% of small business owners report that the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the law will make them more likely to hire new employees. The vast majority said they would be less likely to hire or that their workforce would stay the same size. When asked directly what the impact would be, 72% said that the health care law will make it harder for their business to hire.
