Greetings!
To me, April is a month of birth and Spring is a time of growth. Allure Spa is celebrating our 18th anniversary this month and as I reflect on the years and how we've grown, I think of my family and my employees and what a blessing they both are. I'd like to share this with you by reflecting on two very important people, my longest employed staff member, Erin, and my son Christian.
Erin has worked for me for 18 years. From the moment she ripped down the job advertisement at Quincy College, to ensure her placement at Allure Spa over any other that might see the ad, she was destined to be with me. Erin, a nursing student at the time was a gift as she started as my salon coordinator. She is a loyal employee but at the same time, when I think of her, she is more of a family member and my personal angel than an employee. She is a voice of reason, source of comfort, and a positive energy for Allure Spa. In 1994 when Erin was a new blessing in my life, Christian, my other angel was only 1 year old. It is amazing that now he is grown up and in college. I understand that growing up alongside my business, he has made a lot of sacrifices. He was so young when we opened Allure Spa and as he got older into teenage years, he spoke up about work calls during dinner and too much work time over family time. I was working so hard to grow my business so that he wouldn't have to make as many sacrifices in the future. I wanted him be able to do what he wants with his life and have opportunities. Now, as I see Erin with her child Effie, 2-years-old, I am so happy with the young adult Christian has become and excitedly hopeful about the future of her child. Erin watched Christian grow up and now I can watch Effie. Sharing this bond is so special.
I just want to say how truly thankful I am for how things have developed and flourished for me. Over these 18 years, I have been so blessed by how many amazing clients and employees have been brought into my life. Now I continue to be blessed as my mission with Friends of the World Charitable Trust also matures, having just returned from Bangladesh with Molly and Bob, I feel at peace with what we have accomplished there in the past year and hopeful for the future. We placed the girls in better living conditions and plan to open a salon to have them gainfully employed!
So enjoy and embrace change this Spring season, as growth sprouts from change. I wish you all the best because without you my growth and success would not have been possible.
God Bless you all,
Sandra Ishmael
