March always represents a time of sacrifice and reflection for me as a Christian. I, along with many other Christians, including some Allure Spa staff, choose to sacrifice a luxury in penance to observe the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This year I chose to give up wine. At times I find I do not want to share my choice because of negative responses, "You really want to do that?" or "We'll see how that works out." But giving up my occasional glass of wine to "unwind" seems fitting to me. Carmel, a stylist at Allure Spa, also gave up wine and tacked on sweets as well! She shared this with me and I shared my sacrifice with her and we decided to band together and pray for one another during this time. This showed me that I should share my choice because it can provide a bond with others.
To me, Lent is a special time about sacrifice, discipline, and unity that culminates in a time of celebration and new opportunities. I feel the sacrifices Lent, which occurs during at least part of March, always lead to reward and the birth of beautiful things in April, such as Allure Spa, founded in April 1994. Having the time to reflect and discipline oneself will always result in beneficial returns. I so enjoy all of these aspects of this time of year. I always stress the importance of supporting one another and showing it openly and this is just one more opportunity to do so, as Carmel has done for me.
I pray that this season will again lead to magnificent rewards as I return to Bangladesh on March 15th to continue my work in assisting underprivileged young women in their quest toward becoming self-sufficient. I truly feel that something beautiful will be born out of this trip, not just for my 40-day sacrifice but for the sacrifices so many have made to aid and support us and these girls over the past year. Please pray for Bob McCarthy and myself, founders of Friends of the World Charitable Trust, and Molly Coyle, board member and Allure Spa employee, as we travel to Bangladesh. Your prayers and support are appreciated more than words can say.

We are excited to share our Spring Fundraiser plans with you! Last year, so many of you came out to support us and we're hoping this year's event is even more enjoyable and successful. We are looking forward to our new venue, The Tirrell Room; a delicious dinner will be served; and we'll have a cultural fashion show. If your quest in the New Year involves a job search, the First Presbyterian Church offers services to help achieve your goals.
Help for Unemployed and Underemployed: Terry Fancher will be available, by appointment, to help those seeking employment.
Terry will be available Saturdays, at the church, from 9:00 a.m. the church 10:00 am and 10:00 am to 11:00 am, by appointment. Each person will be counseled for up to three months, if necessary.
