Greetings,
As we enter this month of Thanksgiving, the Allure Spa staff is grateful for you and your support. Thank you for letting us care for you and thank you for making us successful.
Sadly, I have been reminded of how short life is and how important it is to care for the people around us every day. My oldest brother, Ralph Bhagwandass, died suddenly of a massive heart attack on Sunday, October 24. He was only 53. This month, we also remember Lauren Frechette, sister of former Allure Spa employee Jessica. Lauren passed away last Thanksgiving. Please keep both families in your prayers and hold your own family close.
Despite my sadness, I am so thankful for the blessings in my life -- my family, my church, my business, my ministry, and so much more. God continues to bless and direct my missions work with the young people from Bangladesh. The orphans' transit visas have been denied, with no hope of a successful appeal. Even with this setback, my ministry is growing and evolving. We are currently looking into setting up a vocational training school in Bangladesh and teaching the orphans there. I am excited about what is taking shape and I will keep you updated.
I hope you find many things to be thankful for this November. Please rest, be well and enjoy your Thanksgiving. God Bless, Sandra Ishmael P.S. We are currently considering the possibility of valet parking. We are open to your input or feedback on this idea.

A Healthy Balance
Heart health is a topic many of us don't think about until it hits home. Don't wait until you have high cholesterol, are on medication for high blood pressure, or have had a heart attack or stroke to be thinking about the Ol' Ticker!
Here are some lifestyle changes that will help keep the Big Pump going strong:
1. 5 cups a day of fruits and veggies. That's 10 servings! But don't stop there if you can eat more. Fruits and veggies provide fiber, which helps keep your arteries clean, are virtually fat free, and are packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants to keep your heart (and the rest of you) healthy.
2. Fiber Up! You should get at least 25-30 grams per day. If you are following Tip 1, you are probably good to go. But for good measure, make sure your grains are giving you fiber too. When choosing bread, pasta, cereal, wraps, and other grains look for 5 grams or more of fiber. Quick Tip: Ease yourself into it if you don't regularly consume high fiber foods. It can take your digestive tract a few weeks to get used to the added work of breaking down fiber.
3. Move! If exercise were a pill, everyone would take it. But since it's not a pill, you need to move. Cardio exercise should be done 3-5 times a week for 30-60 minutes. The more you do, the more benefit you get.
- Target Heart Rate (THR). Find your Heart Rate Max (HRM) by subtracting your age from 220. That is the recommended maximum beats per minute (bpm) you should reach during exercise. Your THR is 50-85% of that max number. This will vary slightly for everyone. The better shape you are in, the higher the percentage you should aim for. If you are new to exercise, start at 50%-60% and work your way up.
Example: 40-year-old woman who is new to working out. 220-40 = 180bpm (100%) 50% of 180bpm = 90bpm 85% of 180bpm = 153bpm This woman should aim to be in a heart rate zone of about 90bpm when exercising. As she improves, she can gradually increase to 153bpm. - Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE). This scale is nice because you can increase your intensity based on how YOU feel, as opposed to using numbers and equations. Rate how hard you feel you are working on a scale of 0-10. For the average person, aim to be around a 3-5 for most of your workout, with intervals of a 6-7.
0 - Nothing at all 0.5 - Just noticeable 1 - Very light 2 - Light 3 - Moderate 4 - Somewhat heavy 5 - Heavy 6 7 - Very heavy 8 9 10 - Very, very heavy
4. Count Fat. In addition to stretching your waistline, a high fat diet contributes to high cholesterol, which can build in arteries. Aim to keep total fat between 40g and 65g per day. Saturated fat 15g or less. Trans-Fat 0g.
