RREDC and SBDC Team To Help Local Dairies
Recently, RREDC and the Small Business Development Center pooled their resources to
react quickly to assist local dairy owners in obtaining operating capital loans through
the Farm Service Agency and other sources. Many dairies feeling the impact of both the Humboldt
Creamery bankruptcy and lagging milk prices sought financing assistance.
SBDC and RREDC met with local dairy
owners to assess the size and scope of their needs. RREDC contacted the Farm Service Agency to get an
overview of their loan guidelines, application process and key points to their
application. With this knowledge, the dairy owners were able to have our team
review their package to ensure a complete submittal. SBDC and RREDC assisted with at least 12 dairies loan packages. RREDC now has 2 dairy loans with FSA guarantees in our portfolio.

Member Update - City of Trinidad
There are a number of new projects completed or underway in the City of Trinidad. A new Trinidad museum created from a 100-year old home recently opened after citizens raised funds and coordinated volunteers to complete the project. A park and a new library are on the horizon. Trinidad is also home to HSU's Marine Lab, the Trinidad memorial Lighthouse and is a part of the California Coastal National Monument.
Land use is, of course, central to our efforts as it is for other entities. The City is in the process of implementing the Tsurai Management Plan, amending the General Plan, adopting and implementing On-Site Waste Water Treatment Ordinances, and considering regulation of Vacation Dwelling Units which are currently 15% of the housing stock.
Thanks to the hustle of citizens, City Staff and Manager Steve Albright, Trinidad has been mightily successful in receiving its fair share of grant funding ($5.8+ million). Current projects include the Gateway to 101 Project, Main and Trinity Safety Improvements, Library/Museum Improvement Project, Library Museum Project Access Improvements, Saunders Park, Azalea and Pacific Streets Reconstruction, Drainage Improvements, Trinidad Pier Reconstruction in Partnership with the Trinidad Rancheria. And in the works, but likely to be funded include: Energy Efficiency and Conservation for City Hall, North Coast Energy Independence Program, Safe Drinking Water Revolving Fund and last but critical to our collective health a Turbidity Meter.
