Coming to Terms with Global Symptoms
My daily reading of "The whole Heart of the Tao" (the Oral Tradition of the Tao de Ching) has been particularly helpful this week as we live in the midst of tangible, violent expressions of our world in process. "If someone thinks that the corporeal body is the limit of the self, then the fear that is inherent in the body makes itself known and is difficult to subdue... We have fear when a limited self is absorbed in importance. If you view the unlimited world as the self then you can be trusted with it. Because only the person who sees the world as themselves and their self as the world, will take care of it."
While marrying our inner spiritual life to our outer experience in the world is often challenging, there is nothing like a natural disaster followed by disasters of our own making to throw us into fear and panic. Just as our bodies react to imbalances and produce often violent symptoms in the effort to limit invasive forces of destruction and protect our deeper systems and organs from damage, so our physical world appears to be involved in a similar process. Such a global experience cannot help but resonate with each of us and if your reaction is deeply distressing, a homeopathic remedy may help you calm down and reconnect with your own center of strength and wisdom. Here are a few remedies that may be helpful.
When fear, panic and the overwhelming certainly that death is hanging over your head suddenly rises up and overwhelms you, causing your heart to race and making you afraid of normally benign situations (crowds, the dark, flying, elevators, tunnels) then a few doses of Aconite30C may help quiet your panic. This is a remedy for an acute situation of fear and panic - out of the blue, suddenly you feel overwhelmed with fear, may even predict the time of death, and have lost any ability to rationalize yourself out of this terror.
If you have many moments on a regular basis of feeling deep inner insecurity, fear and restlessness, then Arsenicum 30C may be a good remedy. Here the fear always increases in the evening, reaching it's peak around midnight when you want others around (even though you may distrust them to some extent) and have a hard time settling your body down. Thirst for small sips of water, pacing about and even wringing of the hands are some of the more obvious signs that this remedy can help. For people who are fastidious in their surroundings and cannot relax until everything is perfectly in order to keep their fear at bay and even then live under the fear of illness, misfortune, or death, try some Arsenicum to restore a sense of well-being in the world.
If you are a highly responsible person who often feels they have to take care of others, who feels upset frequently in the stomach/solar plexus area and is sometimes accused of being overly critical (by their unappreciative family members!), then Kali-carb 30C may help you right now. If you routinely wake up at 3 a.m., don't consider yourself an emotional person (your emotions/anxiety may only be evident by the pain and unease felt in your stomach) but do find yourself irritated by those around you (especially your family) then consider trying this remedy to settle your stomach and calm your turmoil.
These three remedies are only a few of the many that can be helpful when you feel caught up in fear, anxiety and a sense of life being out of your control. Besides homeopathic remedies, reach for other aids to help support you through these challenging times - good friends, family, a spiritual practice, feeling appreciation for your life and all the wonders of the world. If the world is a hologram and each of us a perfect image of the larger whole, then our own efforts to rebalance and heal our feelings of distress will help give rise to actions and energy that support the rebalance and healing for the greater world.
