Our firm has recently had the pleasure of attending Dave Ramsey's Live seminar. We are always being asked about life after bankruptcy. Dave Ramsey himself filled for Bankrutpcy 20 years ago and has become very successful since.
Dave's program consits of 7 Baby Steps that you can use whether you have filled bankruptcy or not.
Step 1: Emergency Fund
*You need a $1000 emergency fund to start
Step 2: The Debt Snowball
*Pay off your smallest debt first, then apply that payment to your next debt and so on until your debt is paid off.
Step 3: Fully Funded Emergency Fund *Three to six months of expenses in savings
Step 4: Retirement *Invest 15% of household income into Roth IRA's and pre-tax retirement
Step 5: College Fund *Start College funding for children using ESA or 529s
Step 6: Pay off Mortgage *Pay off your home early
