About Aaron Arneson

Aaron joined Wagoner Maxcy Westbrook, P.C. as a Law Clerk on May 12, 2008.  He was promoted to Associate Attorney in September 2010, after earning admission to the Missouri Bar.   Aaron was born right here in Kansas City.  However, Aaron's family soon moved to Springfield, Missouri, where he lived until graduating from Glendale High School.  Upon graduating high school, Aaron decided to leave the Midwest to pursue his Bachelor's Degree in Hotel Administration, which he received in May 2005 from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.  Aaron made the decision to return to Missouri to attend law school closer to his home, friends, and family.  He graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in May 2010 and is currently working towards earning his Masters of Law in Taxation.  In addition to working at Wagoner Maxcy Westbrook, Aaron also served as a Law Clerk to the Chief Bankruptcy Judge for the United States Bankruptcy Court, Western District of Missouri.

As a law student, Aaron was the President of the Student Bar Association.  Additionally, he served as the Program Editor of the Urban Lawyer Journal, which is the nation's premier land use and local government publication.  Aaron was also a Board Member of the Law School's Policy and Planning Committee.

When he isn't working to help his clients achieve a fresh start in life, Aaron enjoys traveling, visiting Table Rock Lake to fish and boat, camping and floating, reading, keeping up with Kansas City sports, and last but not least, spending time with his friends, family, and nine-year-old dog, Hurli.  He also volunteers his time to Lawyers in the Classroom, which is a program dedicated to mentoring Kansas City-area debate students in their classrooms.

Aaron's Favorite Fall Activity

Leaves

My favorite season of the year is fall.  Like most people who enjoy the season, my favorite part is the changing of the leaves.  Without question, the best place to go to see the best of best when it comes to fall foliage is northwestern Arkansas.  There are some great tips on where to go, what to see, and where to stay at http://www.arkansas.com/calendar/fall_foliage_pg1.aspx.  One thing the website doesn't mention is how much fun the little town of Eureka Springs can be.  I love visiting the town, which is hidden in the Ozark Mountain region of northwest Arkansas, and is known for its many locally owned stores which feature art, crafts, and food from the area.  To learn a little more about Eureka Springs, and all it has to offer, visit http://www.arkansas.comand search "Eureka Springs."

 News & Info Section

With Aaron pursuing his Masters in Tax Law, the firm has decided to look into a new area of practice - the negotiating of individual taxpayers' unpaid tax liability.  For instance, if for some reason a taxpayer is unable to pay the taxes they owe, the IRS will send the taxpayer a bill.  The IRS sometimes recognizes that taxpayers are truly unable to pay what they owe.  For those who fall into this category, there are a few options that our firm hopes to offer clients assistance in pursuing.  First, a taxpayer can request an extension of time to pay the taxes they owe.  Second, a taxpayer can work with their attorney to attempt to arrange an Installment Agreement.  An Installment Agreement is an agreement between the taxpayer and the IRS that the taxpayer will pay a certain amount each month towards his or her tax liability, over a period of time.  Finally, in some cases, a taxpayer is able to settle their tax bill for less than the amount they actually owe.  This is accomplished by working with an attorney to submit an Offer in Compromise to the IRS.  The criteria for accepting an Offer in Compromise are very strict, and it is important that a taxpayer work closely with their attorney to submit an Offer to the IRS.
