Caring for Your Living Christmas Tree

One thing to remember about living trees is that they cannot be inside a warm room for as long as you normally would leave

a cut tree.  For best success, decorate and leave it outside until just a few days before the holiday, acclimating it on the porch.  Once you are ready to enjoy it inside, put the tree in a bucket, placing it inside the house away from any heat source and water with ice cubes or cool water. The root ball should remain moist,  but don't drown it in water! Once the holiday is over, move it outside to the porch to acclimate for a few days, and later you can plant it anytime the ground is not frozen!  If you want to wait until spring before planting, be sure to cover the root ball with soil and make sure it gets enough water!
