Bulbs for Spring and Summer Color
In early spring when the cheerful crocus begins to emerge, we are reminded that the the wet and windy weather of winter is nearly behind us. The first bulb siting reassures us that the sun will surely shine once again! Then before you know it, the summer bulbs emerge almost magically with symmetry, grace, and if we are lucky, hypnotic fragrance. What a pleasure it is to be walking through the garden and find that one favorite bulb you planted long ago, or maybe it was just last year, has begun to show its elegance.
Bulbs are actually an amazing diverse group of plants, each a storage unit for food that gives the plant the energy it needs to grow, bloom, and complete its lifecycle each and every year. Bulbs exist in many forms. There are the true bulbs, the corms, the rhizomes and the tubers. All are generally referred to as "bulbs". Daffodils, hyacinth, lilies and tulips are the "true bulbs", Corms give rise to flowers such as crocus and gladioli. Anemones, dahlias and ranunculus grow from tubers and canna and iris are examples of rhizomes. The various forms may seem somewhat confusing at first, but rest assured they will all produce stunning flowers and add magnificent color to your garden.
Now is the time to select and plant those winter hardy bulbs for next years fabulous color. Once again we have selected
Fritillaria Rubra | bulbs specifically for our Northwest Gardens, some you might call more ordinary, some very unique and special, all of which will enhance your gardens with color, grace and splendor.
