Upcoming Sale Dates
Many Gardiner Angus Ranch customers share our common philosophy regarding beef production. Those customers are professional cow-calf producers allied, not only with the GAR philosophy, but committed to the discipline required to produce seedstock with added value throughout the food chain.

As the beef industry makes scientific progress through the development of molecular breeding values and marker assisted EPDs, Gardiner Angus Ranch and its Allied Producers will aggressively use the data to develop new and better programs, offer more services and continue producing superior Angus genetics.

Strong Bull Market Established Early
in the 31st Annual Production Sale

The 31st Annual Spring Production Sale will likely be remembered as one of the strongest bull sales on record at Gardiner Angus Ranch. Sustainable predictability and added value throughout the food chain continues to bring a high percentage of repeat customers back each year for this annual event. This year 262 buyers from 32 states made the trip for the 31st Annual Sale. At the end of the day, 970 lots grossed $3,684,475 averaging $3,798. Click here to read the full sale report.

The popular video series, Customer Connections, continues on www.gardinerangus.com. New videos in the series will be added periodically. In addition, audio-only files have been added for those with slower Internet access. The ongoing series is designed to respond to questions frequently asked by our customers. Topics include bull replacements, selection of sale offering, Southern Carcass Improvement Project, use of DNA-enhanced EPDs, $Value Index, feed and forage management, just to name a few. Check the website frequently for audio and video updates.

GAR Steers Continue to Outpace
the Average by a Country Mile!

Earlier this spring, we reported on a group of 37 home-raised steers fed at Triangle H Feedlot in Garden City, Kansas, and harvested at the National Beef plant in Liberal, Kansas. Since then, we have received closeouts on an additional 112 head, all home-raised, fed at Triangle H Feedlot and harvested at National Beef from march through May 2010. The average for the most recent 112 steers returned an additional $69.41 per head for Quality Grade alone. More than 53% of all the steers graded USDA Prime. More than 96% graded Choice or higher while another 35% qualified for high quality branded programs. The steers had an overall advantage versus the live market of $97.00. Click here for more information.

"The overall performance of these steers fed over several months is a strong statement about our customers' opportunity to truly choose profitability backed by proven performance," says Mark Gardiner. "For producers who want to earn significantly more on their cattle, results like this prove it can  be done again and again."

GAR Sired Cattle Take Coveted Overall
Awards at 2010 Beef Empire Days

A black heifer fed at Triangle H of Garden City by GAR customer, Lewis Mayer, earned the Earl C. Brookover Memorial Award at Beef Empire Days for posting the best combined finish in the live and carcass shows. The 1,320-pound entry placed fourth among heifers in the live show and seventh in the heifer carcass contest. The heifer posted a USDA Choice quality grade, Yield Grade 2.29, carcass weight of 819 pounds, 16.01 square inch ribeye area and .52" back fat.

Triangle H owned and fed the Cargill Meat Solutions Grand Champion Carcass animal. The 1,400-pound black steer graded low Prime, was a Yield Grade 2.67 and had an 891-pound carcass with a 14.32 square-inch ribeye and .39" of back fat. Prior to the carcass show, the steer placed 20th among live steers.

Two more GAR sired steers fed at Triangle H finished at the top of the entries. A steer owned by GAR customer Randy Bayne posted a 15th place live placing and a second place carcass placing with a USDA Choice Quality Grade, Yield Grade 2.07 and 15.77 square-inch ribeye. A Joe Mayer entry had a second place live placing. Another heifer owned by Ken Grecian and fed at Triangle H placed in the live contest.

Grand Champions are determined in the steer and heifer division. The Earl C. Brookover Memorial is awarded to either the Grand Champion Steer or Grand Champion Heifer. Determination of this award is a joint decision of the live and carcass judges. Each judge independently determines which of the two animals is the better in their respective show. If each judge decides that one was best in both shows, that animal shall be awarded the Earl C. Brookover Memorial.

The overall Carcass Award sponsored by Cargill Meat Solutions is awarded to either the Carcass Show champion steer or heifer. The award goes to the animal, steer or heifer, exhibiting the best overall carcass characteristics. The overall carcass champion steer was sired by GAR New Design 5050.

To be awarded Grand Champion, an animal must have placed in both the live and carcass shows.

Winners of the 2010 Beef Empire Days fed cattle show were announced June 5. Complete results can be found at www.beefempiredays.com.
