Guthrie Christmas Angel Project 2009

We still have 9 families that need to be adopted for Christmas!!

The Tree is Up!!

Looking for a way to give to someone in need
this Christmas?
Help a family have an extra-special Christmas!
This project offers an opportunity to give to a family in need. Each ornament card will have all the information about the family you will need. You are asked to provide a Christmas box or bag for the family. Fill it with clothes, books, toys, socks, shoes or maybe a gift card, or whatever your heart tells you to give.  You can wrap the gifts or just put them in unwrapped.
Feel free to go in with another family,
or consider making it a class or group project!
The Christmas boxes/bags will be collected and then distributed to the families through Guthrie schools DHS workers. Please bring your gift to Community Church by Dec. 15

New Today:

Upcoming Surgeries & Procedures:

Lauri WilliamsUpdate 01Dec: Good morning!  The surgery went great and I should be going home at around 11:00 this morning.  Thank you so much for all the prayers.  I feel them!
I am scheduled for surgery Monday, November 30, at Lakeside Women's Hospital.  Hysterectomy and bladder surgery.

Colleen Coffman:  Update 21Nov: Heard from the doctors and they do not believe that the stimulator is causing all the illness, so they will not be removing it.  Yeah!!  The only new thing from all of the lab work has been that I have a huge vitamin D deficiency.  That can cause some problems, but not all of the ones I have been having.  The general consensus at this time is that it is time to send me to the Mayo Clinic.  We have been in contact with them and are waiting to hear back with an appointment date.  We are hoping for an appointment before Christmas and that is our prayer right now.  Also, I will be traveling on my own, so hopefully I won't have to stay for a prolonged period of time or be hospitalized for a lot of procedures.  God has it all worked out and will take care of whatever needs taking care of.  Thanks for your continued prayers!!
Additional update to above:  Colleen received a call back from Mayo and they are currently scheduling 12 weeks out.  She is praying for an earlier date...hoping people won't want to be there on Christmas and she might get a slot then.  The timing might be improved if her local doctors can help her.  Please pray!!
I have just about exhausted the doctors resources here.  I am still waiting to hear from the meeting three of them were having together to determine if they need to remove the spinal stimulator.  If there is disagreement there, the next step is to take all of my records and tests to the Mayo Clinic and start there.  Will keep you posted as I know what is going on.  As has been for many, many months now, thanks so much for the thoughts and prayers.  I don't know how I could travel this road this long with God carrying me, and you all praying!!

Updates and Current Requests:

From Maria WilsonUpdate 28Nov: Marla is doing much better. Her infection is draining on it's own now, so the surgeon says no more surgery!!! Doc says she will still be in the hospital with iv antibiotics for another week or two.
Marla had surgery on the infected location and it went well.  They are waiting on the culture to find out what kind infection this is.  Consensus is it is a type of staph.  Please wait to visit until we find out.  Thank you for all your prayers...keep them coming!
Please pray for Marla Belcher, our secretary, who was admitted to Baptist Hospital with a staph infection.

From Judy Wooster:  Pray for family friend in Texas.  Their 14 yr. old is undergoing tests for a tumor in his leg, they just got a letter in the mail that their house if being foreclosed on, and the mother has the flu.  I am possibly going down there on Saturday--pray for words of wisdom and God's spirit to comfort  them as they go through this unbelievably hard time.

Prayer for restoration of my daughter's marriage and protection for two little ones--aged 4 and 5.

From Tracy SmithUpdate 25NovMelissa made it through the 9 hour surgery.  They were able to remove 90% of the tumor.  The remaining 10% is embedded in the brain and cannot be reached without compromising her motor skills.  They discovered the cancer is Geoplastoma and is stage 4.  Melissa will start chemo and radiation treatments in 6 weeks.  Please continue to pray for this family.
Mr. Tim Rawls (Junior High Principal) sister, Melissa, was diagnosed with a Stage 3 malignant brain tumor today.  She will undergo an 8+ hour surgery to remove the tumor on Tuesday, Nov. 24th.  Melissa has 3 small children and lives in Texas .  Please pray healing for Melissa and peace for the family as they deal with this.  Pray guidance for the surgeons at MD Anderson as this is a very difficult/delicate surgery because of the location and size of the tumor.  Thank you.

From Paula Bays
:  Please pray in two specific ways for a Midwest City pastor and his wife (Dan and Michelle).  First for Michelle.  Michelle is currently in ICU after her latest fight with cancer which is attacking her bones.  Secondly, Churches in the Midwest City area are in the process of doing their own version of "Home Makeover" for this family.  Many have volunteered and resources are being gathered. Pray for God's complete provision and He would be lifted high above Midwest City for all to see His glory.

From Beth Anne BrownLogan BrownUpdate 21Nov: Talked to Logan late last night.  He seemed to be in good spirits with no depression.  He has been able to work full time and his blood counts are good.  Everyone's prayers are being answered!  Just 10 more months of chemo to pray him through.  We are so grateful for everyone's prayer support!  Keep up the good work!Logan called yesterday and let us know how he is doing.  He is tolerating the chemo as well as can be expected.  He says it feels like he has the flu all the time.  Thankfully he has been able to work at this level of chemo.  He didn't miss any work this last week and work is going well.  He said he isn't having the trouble with depression that he had been having either.  That is a real praise!  Thank you all so much for your prayers.  We know he is doing this well only because of them.  Please keep them coming and may God bless you for your part in this ongoing battle.

From Darlene Dawson: Jena ChannelUpdate 21Nov: Jena is doing better and she saw the doctor Wed and  weighed in at 9.5  She is still on the feeding tube and the doctor has changed her medication for the thrush and she seems to be doing better on it and hopefully it will go ahead and knock it out and then get back to feeding with the bottles again. She also had an appointment with the cardiologist that afternoon. All her stats were good. Her oxygen level was in the 90's on its own and her blood pressure was good. She was to have her second surgery next March but the doctor said he is hoping that with her oxygen level being so high on its own, that they might be able to postpone her next surgery until next summer. She has another appointment with the cardiologist in 6 weeks. We are so Thankful for all your prayers and do keep praying for her as she still needs lots of prayers
Please pray for our little Great Granddaughter Jena. She is not gaining weight and not taking much milk from her bottle. She was taking 2 oz and now she takes only about 3/4 oz of milk. The doctor said she has done all she knows to do. She's more concerned about her not gaining weight than anything else. The doctor suggested they call the cardiologist tomorrow and ask him if he knows what else to do. It seems she is not absorbing the calories from her milk. She is not gaining weight. They want her to gain 2 pounds a month and she has only gained 1/2 pound. She is still on the feeding tube as well as the bottle. I know we have a big God and he is in control. Please pray that she will be able to eat. Darlene
Jena went for her first follow up visit yesterday with the cardiologist since her surgery and being released from the hospital. She had blood work, and lots of other test and they are were good reports. They said her kidney function was back to normal. They took her stitches out. The shunt was working like it is supposed to. She still has the feeding tube in and they give her a bottle every 2nd feeding. She had gained more weight now weighs 8 lbs 5 oz. She will have surgery again when she is 6 months old. Do keep praying for her as she still needs lots of prayers. Thank You so much for your prayers and we have such a Great God.
Baby Jena is home and we are so Thankful and appreciate all of your prayer's. God is so good.  She is still on the feeding tube. She goes to see the pediatrician today in Duncan and then to the heart doctor at children's hospital in OKC the 19th. Her mother and dad gets very little rest or sleep. Shes still not out of the woods and sill needs lots of prayers.

Jim Harris:  Father of Cindy BarnhillUpdate 20Nov: Dad will have a PET scan on 11/24/09.  This will indicate if there is any areas of concern remaining that need further treatment with the Chemotherapy.  The past few weeks he has made progress in tolerating the nutrition, medications and increased strength.  Praise God.! Thank you for your continued commitment to pray.  Psalm 103:1-5

Prayer For Continual Healing

Zach Trello:  Zachary's results from the biopsies came back and he has no food allergies and no cancer... PRAISE GOD!!!  They have him on some medicine to see if it will slow down the throwing up and start the healing in the esophagus and stomach.  He will stay on that and go back in January when they will determine whether he is healing with the meds, or will require the surgery to fix the damage.

From Janice Stepp: Update 31OctVicky continues to go monthly to Chicago for treatments. This month, the day she went, she had a foot seize and move up and down involuntarily. They found that the tumor in her brain had grown. The doctor increased her chemo and steroids with more side effects than before. She's still in good spirits and feeling fairly well though. Thanks for continuing to pray, Janice
