Celebrating our Sixth Anniversary!
|
 | | Cache Advance Booth at Groundspeak's Block Party 2011 |
|
Since beginning in 2005 we've evolved from offering a few specialty products that developed from the need for "First Aid for Tupperware", to providing a wide array of cacher tested & cacher approved gear and roaming the country attending and vending at Mega events. We're proud to outfit everyone from the casual weekend cacher, families seeking adventure, scout groups, elementary, middle, high school and college classes, to seasoned caching veterans who tackle all day cache runs without batting an eye and wouldn't even entertain the thought of leaving a Puzzle series cache unsolved. This year we had the great opportunity to send the 'Away Team' to travel much of the summer and attend many Mega events including Geowoodstock 9 in Pennsylvania, Midwest Geobash in Ohio and the Groundspeak Block Party in Seattle. Thanks to everyone who stopped by the booth and all the cachers we met along the trail. We love meeting you, hearing about your geocaching adventures and getting your feedback and opinions; we keep all this in mind when developing new products and concepts. And of course we couldn't have made it the last six years without our caching friends and family who supported Cache Advance when it was a part-time passion and helped it grow into a full-time dedicated geocaching resource. We're excited about year seven; we have some exciting plans in the works and we're honored to share it with our amazing Geo caching community! To help celebrate, we're offering 10% off all purchases today and tomorrow only! Hurry on over the site and stock up!!Thank You, and Happy Caching!

Hunting Season Safety Tips:
With the onset of Autumn weather many areas you and your family may have gotten used to caching in all summer are now active hunting grounds. Caution is certainly advisable, but fear isn't necessary, if you think about where you're going and you prepare properly for your trip. The best form of preparation is in the clothing you wear and the places you choose to go.
During hunting season there are some important things to keep in mind:- Be aware of your surroundings: Hunters generally know where hiking trails are located, so it's not a bad idea to stick to established trails and limit off-trail trampings at this time of year.
- Follow the lead of hunters when you dress for a fall hike. Items of blaze-orange clothing that are visible from all directions are best. For instance, an orange cap or an orange jacket encircle the wearer in color. Inexpensive, orange, vinyl vests are easy to come by too.
- Avoid wearing white during hunting season. A flash of white may be mistaken for the white of a deer's tail.
- Don't forget your pets either -adorn them with hunter orange and keep them close to you.
- Keeping in mind that there are many areas where the hiking is great and the hunting isn't, many often head for the high country for an autumn outing. There are some areas where the habitat isn't attractive to game, but where views are well worth the trip. Consider hiking away from areas that are popular with hunters.
- Educate yourself as to what hunting season is active in your area: you might ask the proprietor of your local sporting goods shop, or check with the folks at your state Fish & Game Department.
- If you're driving in an area known for deer crossings drive slowly and take caution especially during the night, at twilight and early morning
- Always carry first aid supplies. But you knew that already, right?
Don't miss the fun of a fall hike, when the air is crisp, the bugs are gone, the crowds are scarce, and - with the leaves off the trees - the views are terrific. A little extra planning and preparation will help ensure a safe, successful and fun cache outing.

Ready to Rise to a Challenge Cache?
Are you ready to take caching to the next level? Have you heard of Challenge Caches? These are not to be confused with the new Challenges ... Challenge Caches are real geocaches to go find, but first you must complete the qualifying challenge...
A challenge cache is a variation of a puzzle cache. This will typically require the cacher to meet a reasonable Geocaching-, Waymarking- or Wherigo-related qualification. An example is finding a cache in each county of your state. Or a cache on each page of a state's Delorme Gazetteer.
Check out this link for more info on Challenge Caches and how to publish one.
 | | Lookout Lisa Finishes the Jasmer Challenge | Working on a Challenge Cache can be a lot of fun: you may find that you see geocaching in a whole new light, and change the way you pick geocaches to seek. Some Challenges take some research and also combing through your geocaching statistics.
Looking at your stats on geocaching.com is a great start; you can delve deeper by uploading your 'My Finds Pocket Query" to My Geocaching Profile to visually see your progress on some challenge caches.
Many challenge caches are set in particular states, but may have similar challenges in many states. One popular challenge cache is called the Fizzy or Well Rounded Cacher Challenge, such as this one: The Well Spun-Around Cacher Challenge. Fizzy challenges often require you to find all 81 difficulty/terrain combinations and all available cache types (traditional, multi, virtual, etc.). Sounds easy, right? Not really! Another popular one is the Jasmer Challenge, requiring you to find a cache hidden in every month since geocaching began. Pictured at right is our CEO Lisa finding her last required Jasmer month cache, 7/2000. Truly a fun and historic challenge!
Challenge caches are not for everyone and some are really, well, challenging. You may find a really fun one to try out. Ask around, look on your local forums and see if you might already qualify for one or more!
