Traffic: Changes May Be Coming to the
Blue Route Interchange on West Chester Pike

A proposed development in Marple, just west of the Blue Route interchange at West Chester Pike may result in improved traffic patterns at the intersection, where regular back-ups are common on both West Chester Pike and Lawrence Road.

Blue Route In order to gain approval for the development, the developers must address traffic in the area. Potential changes include closing the northbound onramp at its present location and moving it further west. This change is specifically designed to alleviate the tremendous backup of traffic on West Chester Pike that blocks Lawrence Road during the morning rush hours.

Fall 2011 Leaf Collection Continues

LeavesPlease remember to check the Fall 2011 Leaf Collection Schedule, and place your leaves curbside. Remember, leaves collected in this manner are used to make compost, and are not taken to the landfill. The Township saves thousands of dollars with this program. Thanks for doing your part!

Peco Meeting Follow-Up

Thank you to the many residents who attended the town meeting with Peco on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Feedback from the meeting was overwhelmingly positive, and residents were particularly pleased to finally be able to speak directly with Peco officials.

What I found most interesting is that most attendees came not to discuss the problems resulting from Hurricane Irene, but to address issues such as tree pruning, maintenance of Peco property near their homes, and other matters.

I believe that the meeting, and the discussions with Peco both before and after the meeting, demonstrate that Peco will listen to its customers, although there is clearly a lot more to do to make certain all of our problems are handled.

Click here to view the handout Peco distributed. Please also feel free to call or email me with either new concerns or with any concerns that Peco has not adequately addressed, and I will forward them to our contacts at the utility.

Redistricting Would Divide the Township;
Meeting Scheduled for November 9, 2011

A plan to redistrict Haverford Township would divide the Township among two State Representatives. As a a result, State Rep. Greg Vitali has scheduled a public meeting on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 7 p.m. at Lynnewood Elementary School, 1400 Lawrence Road, Havertown, to discuss the impact of proposed redistricting on Haverford Township and explain what residents can do to object.

The map below shows the current and the proposed legislative district:

The plan calls for Wards 1 and 9 to move from the 166th Legislative District to the 163rd Legislative District, which Republican Nicholas Micozzie represents.  Rep. Vitali believes it is important that the Township remain in one legislative district because it fosters better communication between both township residents and local officials and their state representative. It also fosters single community identification, and is consistent with the State Constitution.

The preliminary plan was approved on Monday, October 31, 2011. There is then a 30-day public comment period that ends November  30th. The Legislative Reapportionment Commission will hold a public hearing on the plan at noon on November 18 at the State Capitol. Residents who wish to speak at the hearing must file a written summary of their comments by November 14.

The plan does not need action by the legislature or governor to become final, but is subject to legal challenges after a final vote by the reapportionment commission. The plan is available on the Legislative Reapportionment Commission's website, www.redistricting.state.pa.us. For further information, contact Rep. Vitali directly by email: gvitali@pahouse.net of by phone at 610-789-3900.
