Reminder - Peco Meeting on October 18th

On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., I (along with 4 fellow Commissioners) will sponsor a Town Meeting/Informational Forum at which you can air your concerns and speak directly with officials from Peco. The meeting, scheduled at my request, is at the Chestnutwold School on Lorraine Avenue in Ardmore. At the meeting, you can ask questions directly of Peco officials, who will set up five to six stations with various displays. The officials will address concerns such as power outages, tree trimming, and anything else on your mind.

Billboards Update

NO BillboardsA resident recently contacted me with concern about why my recent newsletters did not contain information about the hearings, etc. Allow me to explain my efforts to fight billboards, to keep residents up to date on the progress of the hearings, and why I chose to focus on Peco in my recent communications:

  • Most people recognize that the process is lengthy, and the Zoning Board is well aware that no one supports billboards.
  • Peco is far and away the number one issue, not only in the 4th Ward but throughout the Township. I have received more communications from residents about Peco than all other issues combined in the last few months, demonstrating that there is a longstanding problem, which pervades this Township.
  • My print newsletter did not have the billboard information because (1) it was and is always only 4 pages. I do not send a longer newsletter because I do not believe that the additional cost of printing and postage is a prudent use of taxpayer dollars, (2) my newsletters regularly encourage residents to visit my website - www.4haverford.com - which has consistently been the ONLY place that provides both the Zoning Board notices and a webpage specifically devoted to the billboards, and (3) my newsletter was delayed in mailing until we could confirm the date of the meeting with Peco, and was therefore mailed just days before the last hearing on October 6th.
  • My view remains that the billboard issue is a legal one, to be decided by the courts, and I will not use the billboards (or any other issue) merely for what some perceive as political rabble-rousing.
  • I have worked closely with our attorneys to discuss the legal issues and to provide my input and advice.

If you have further questions or concerns, please contact me.

Fall 2011 Newsletter Online

My Fall 2011 Constituent newsletter is now available online. To view the newsletter, just click here.

This newsletter is being sent to all 4th Ward residents. It is also the last Newsletter that will be prepared exclusively by me. Beginning with the Winter 2012 issue, Franklin Maps will publish a Township Newsletter, that will contain essentially identical content for all Commissioners. By outsourcing the Newsletter, the Township saves money, the Newsletter will be printed in full color, and will be the same regardless who your Commissioner is.

I will of course continue to publish my email newsletters (such as this one), and ask that you forward this newsletter to friends and neighbors so that they can subscribe to this Newsletter. While I'm sure many of you appreciate the effort that is put into the Newsletters, I believe that having a uniform style will be a plus for the Township.
