October 18, 2011 Constituent Meeting
To Focus Exclusively on Peco
On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., I (along with 4 fellow Commissioners) will sponsor a Town Meeting/Informational Forum at which you can air your concerns and speak directly with officials from Peco. The meeting, scheduled at my request, is at the Chestnutwold School on Lorraine Avenue in Ardmore. At the meeting, you can ask questions directly of Peco officials, who will set up five to six stations with various displays. The officials will address concerns such as power outages, tree trimming, and anything else on your mind.
The meeting is a direct result of the communications issues that arose during Hurricane Irene. I had criticized Peco's communications with residents and demanded that the utility meet with me and other Township officials so that we could move forward and try to avoid the problems that made a difficult situation even worse. Peco officials contacted me, proposed this Town Meeting format, and agreed to hold two such sessions with Township residents. This session will therefore also include residents from four other Wards in the Township, with a separate session for residents of the other four Wards tentatively scheduled for October 25th at the same time and location.
During Hurricane Irene, I responded to literally 100s of email, dozens of phone calls and text messages, and even met with residents who stopped by my law office. While residents acknowledged the severity of the storm, they also questioned why Peco provided less than helpful or accurate information, and demanded to know how this situation could be averted in the future. This is your opportunity to have your voice heard. This Meeting will be in lieu of my regular semi-annual constituent meeting.
If you cannot attend, please send me an email (to dansiegel@4haverford.com) and I will answer or forward your email to the appropriate Township or Peco official for a response. |
Insurance Reminder
The recent storm activity serves as a reminder to all Township residents that they should review their homeowner's insurance coverage and flood insurance coverage with their agents/insurance companies in order to properly protect their personal residences, probably the most valuable tangible assets that we all have.
Please pay particular attention to the following coverage:
Coverage for Sewers, Drains and Sump Pumps:
This valuable coverage is not included under your standard homeowner's policy but can be purchased by endorsement for an additional premium. The Township is not responsible for damage caused by sewers, drains and sump pumps except under limited/ special circumstances.
Flood Coverage:
Flood coverage is not included under your homeowner's policy. However, flood insurance is available under the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and may be obtained through your insurance agent or broker. The Township does not provide flood insurance for residential properties.
Thanks to MaryAnn Del Pizzo, Haverford Township Human Resources Director, for providing these valauble reminders. |
October 1st is Haverford Township Day
Haverford Township Day 2011 will be held on Saturday, October 1st from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. As always, the festivities will kick off with a parade and culminate with lots of food, fun and festivities in the Brookline and Skatium areas. It's a great day for everyone to have a good time, see friends, and just experience why we all love to live in Haverford Township. Click here for more information. |
Fall 2011 Newsletter Online
My Fall 2011 Constituent newsletter is now available online. To view the newsletter, just click here.
This newsletter is being sent to all 4th Ward residents. It is also the last Newsletter that will be prepared exclusively by me. Beginning with the Winter 2012 issue, Franklin Maps will publish a Township Newsletter, that will contain essentially identical content for all Commissioners. By outsourcing the Newsletter, the Township saves money, the Newsletter will be printed in full color, and will be the same regardless who your Commissioner is.
I will of course continue to publish my email newsletters (such as this one), and ask that you forward this newsletter to friends and neighbors so that they can subscribe to this Newsletter. While I'm sure many of you appreciate the effort that is put into the Newsletters, I believe that having a uniform style will be a plus for the Township. |
Happy New Year 5772

Rosh Hashanah marks the start of a new year on the Hebrew calendar.
Wishing you peace, joy, hope and happiness at Rosh Hashanah and always.
