Bubble Gum Factory Demolition

Demolition continues on Eagle Road at former bubble gum factory, which is being transformed into a state-of-the-art YMCA. In addition, the Y continues to move forward with its development plans, which must be approved by the Township Planning Commission.

I am aware that many residents are eagerly anticipating the new facility. I am equally aware of concerns about traffic from the Y, and have been meeting with various groups, planners, and others to assure that the YMCA's traffic plan addresses the concerns of the residents on nearby streets.

Updated information about the Y is posted on my website at http://www.4haverford.com/havertown_ymca.html. On this page, you can view the YMCA's latest brochure, its proposed site plan, and its proposed streetscape plan. I will continue to update the web page as I receive new information.

MeetingRoad Paving Underway

Road PavingAs part of a $3 million program, the Township has begun to repave many Township streets. Streets in the 4th Ward that will be repaved include Brierwood Road, Sue Ellen Drive, Merrybrook Drive, Robinson Avenue, Golf Hills Road, and Golf View Drive.

On behalf of the Township, I ask that you cooperate with the construction crews while we work to improve our roads. Thank you for your cooperation.

MeetingWelcome to New Neighbors at Haverford Reserve

Haverford ReserveAs part of my regular "door knocking" throughout the 4th Ward, I recently visited our new neighbors at Haverford Reserve to welcome them to the community. The new carriage homes and other developments at the Reserve are beautiful, and are becoming a showcase for the Township. The residents consistently praised the development, and commented how beautiful and quiet the neighborhood is.

Like other residents, the Haverford Reserve residents look forward to completion of the Community Recreation Center, which is under construction. If you haven't been to the Reserve lately, take a ride, walk one of the trails, let your kids have fun at Freedom Playground, and see why the area is so popular.

SnowPaddock Park & Paddock Farms News

Paddock FarmsPaddock Park continues to be one of the focal points of activity in the 4th Ward. The Parks and Recreation Department will operate the highly popular summer camp program at the Park.

Here is additional Paddock Farms-area news:

Paddock Park Restroom - The 2011 Township Budget included funds to construct a bathroom at Paddock Park. Although the Township is considering budget cuts because of additional expenses resulting from increased fuel and other costs, I continue to fight to assure that this very needed facility is built. I will keep you posted about this as I receive information.

Baseball Fields at Paddock Park - The fields at Paddock Park are heavily used, and the Township is well aware of drainage issues and concerns at the Park, and their impact on nearby residents. While short-term solutions have been suggested, I continue to support a long-term solution that will address all of the drainage issues and prevent runoff onto neighboring properties. Because of issues such as this, the Board of Commissioners has requested that the Township staff draft a needs list for all of the Township parks so that the Board can consider dedicating funds to assure that all of the parks are up-to-date and serve all of the residents of the Township.

July 4th Celebration - The Paddock Farms Civic Association is finalizing plans for its annual July 4th celebration. As usual, the Independence Day celebration will kick off with a parade starting at Merrybrook Circle (please arrive by 10:30 a.m.) and culminating in fun and festivities for all in the park.

MeetingFree Compost

Compost

The Township's Leaf and Yard Waste Recycling Program has resumed, with curbside collection on most Wednesdays through late October. Rather than transport materials to the dump, the Township composts the materials, and makes the resulting compost available to residents for free. The program, which complies with the new Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) requirements, has already saved Haverford Taxpayers over $100,000.00.

Residents can pick up the material at the recycling yard (located at the end of Hilltop Road, off of Old West Chester Pike) or any of the locations below, or pay a nominal delivery fee of $40.00 for up to one truckload of material. Additional information and directions are available from the Public Works Department at (610) 446-1000, extension 2263.

  Additional Composting Pick-up Locations:

· Karakung Drive (the "Fanelli property")

 · Merry Place Parking Lot

· Polo Field Parking Lot

· Steel Field Parking Lot

· Veterans Field Parking Lot

SnowLynnewood Park July 4th Parade
