YMCA Update
Demolition has begun on the abandoned bubble gum factory on Eagle Road, which will be transformed into a state-of-the-art YMCA. It is anticipated that demolition, which began last week, will take 4 to 6 weeks; the new facility is expected to open in the spring of 2013. The 70,000 square foot facility will feature a wellness center, indoor gymnasium, two pools and group exercise studios. For more information about the demolition, click here to read the Delaware County Daily Times story in which this photo appeared.
Updated information about the Y is posted on my website at http://www.4haverford.com/havertown_ymca.html. On this page, you can view YMCA's latest brochure, its proposed site plan, and its proposed streetscape plan. I will continue to update the web page as I receive new information. |
Free Trees For Township Residents
The Township has announced its annual spring tree planting program. Designed this year to provide trees for up to 10 residents per Ward, the program allows residents to have a free tree planted by the Township in the right of way in front of their homes. This year, the Township will plant Kwanzan Cherry, Flowering Plum and Red Maple trees.
This program is open only to residents of the 4th Ward. If you live in another Ward, I suggest you contact your Commissioner to determine whether he has any available trees. |
Constituent Meeting Highlights
Thank you to the residents who attended my semi-annual Constituent Meeting on Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Among the issues discussed were traffic, property drainage, lighting at Haverford Reserve, the YMCA, recycling, and other issues. Most important, residents were able to raise their concerns directly with Township Manager Larry Gentile, Assistant Township Manager Lori Hanlon-Widdop, Police Chief Carmen Pettine, Deputy Police Chief John Viola and District Justice Elisa Lacianca. Thanks again to the residents and Township officials who attended. |
Police Join Crime Mapping Website
|
The Haverford Township Police Department has unveiled its latest community information program, an Internet-based public access crime mapping website - www.crimereports.com - which compiles data from calls for service and police incidents and plots them on a map for all to see. The website can be accessed free of charge from any computer or mobile device.
You can use the site to search for multiple categories of incidents across the Township or to see what reports have occurred on a specific block. You can also use the site to search a specific date or look back over a selected period of time for all categories or narrow your search to just one, such as burglaries or theft. Links to the website have been added to the Township website and my website at www.4haverford.com/haverford_police_crime_mapping.html.The program also allows you to view crime trends within a specific area and date range. Archived data up to six months prior to the date of the query is also available. |
