Snow Storm Update

The Township is preparing for another major snow storm, and the Public Works staff has begun to prepare to plow and salt 132 miles of Township roads and 33 miles of State roads. The Township has 27 trucks and 700 tons of salt geared up and ready to go at the first signs of snow fall.

As in the past, major roads will be completed first, and secondary roads will be completed as soon as the major roads are finished. Please be  patient during this snow fall because the Public Works crews are faced with the challenge of moving large amounts of snow, along with having significant snow that remains on our roads. Township crews will try to plow the roads as wide as possible but, unfortunately, because of the volume of snow predicted (and the snow remaining from the recent storm), the Township does not have many ways to address this issue.

If this storm is as severe as predicted, the Township Building will operate with minimal staff. Emergency Medical Services personnel are also prepared and will have sufficient staff to respond to anyone in need of assistance.

This has been a very difficult year in terms of snow, however, and the Township is already $200,000 over budget from snow removal and related expenses. In addition, there will be significant personnel costs associated with the coming storm. The Township will also have to replenish its supply of salt, at an estimated cost of $46,000.

Please cooperate by removing all vehicles from the street, when possible, and by refraining from parking near intersections. Also, when clearing snow, do not throw it in the street - this causes safety and other problems. With your cooperation, the plows will be able to make streets as wide as possible under the circumstances.

Thank you for your patience and assistance, and please be safe during this event.
