Traffic

TrafficTraffic remains a problem throughout the Township and our Ward, and I devote many hours to addressing your concerns. Below are recent developments in two areas.

Paddock Road & Ellis Road

I have been contacted by numerous residents about traffic and speeding in the area of Paddock & Ellis Roads. As a result, the Township Engineer reviewed the intersection and issued a report with potential solutions to "calm" the traffic.

The Township plans to mark the intersection in the near future based upon these recommendations to evaluate their effectiveness. No decisions have been made about what, if any, methods will be used -- and my goal is to make sure that the impacted neighbors are completely satisfied with whatever solution is chosen. Click here to read a copy of the letter that I delivered to residents who live near the intersection; it contains the Engineer's drawings and photos of an intersection where similar improvements were made.

Lawrence Road

As many of you know, cars regularly drive very fast on Lawrence Road, including the area by Lynnewood School. On Sunday, October 10th, there was an accident on Lawrence Road; fortunately, no one was injured. As a result, I am continuing efforts to have Penndot review the area. In addition, I strongly recommend that you use the school parking lot when you attend school events, soccer games, etc.

If you have questions, comments, other traffic concerns, etc., please contact me by phone (610-446-1117) or email ([email protected]).

Leaf Collection - Fact & Fiction

LeavesThere are many rumors floating around about fall leaf collection in the Township, many of which are false.

THE TOWNSHIP WILL CONTINUE TO COLLECT LEAVES: Haverford Township will continue to collect leaves. Hot pink signs posted on telephone polls stating that the Township is not collecting leaves this year are false. To the contrary, the Township has purchased a composting machine and will be using it for this year's leaf collections.

LEAVES WILL BE COLLECTED CURBSIDE AS USUAL - YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BAG YOUR LEAVES: Like past years, leaves will be collected curbside, without the need for bagging. There is no change in the procedure for leaf collection.

NO DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE ABOUT LEAF COLLECTION IN FUTURE YEARS: As I have reported in other newsletters, the Township has been considering other methods of leaf collection, including bagging. NO DECISIONS have been made about changes in future years and any rumors about this are just rumors - not fact. I have received extensive feedback from residents and am aware that many of you do not want to change the method by which we collect leaves and have forwarded this information to the Township. NO decisions have been made about future collections.

THE LEAF COLLECTION SCHEDULE IS NOT YET AVAILABLE: The Township has not finalized the 2009 leaf collection schedule. When it is completed, I will send an email Newsletter and post the information on my website (www.4haverford.com).

Next Billboard Hearing - October 15th

NO BillboardsOn Thursday, October 15th, the Haverford Township Zoning Hearing Board will hold another public hearing on the challenge by the Bartkowski Group (also known as "BIG") to the Township ordinance prohibiting construction of billboards, a ban that I wholeheartedly support.

The hearing will be held on Thursday, October 15,  2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Lynnewood Elementary School on Lawrence Road in  Havertown.

I will continue to notify you about the billboard hearings and related matters. You will also receive updates in my email newsletters, on my website, and in my print newsletters.

St. George's Church Polling Place Moved

The polling place at St. George's Church at Ardmore Avenue and Darby Road, where residents in Precinct 4-4 vote, has been moved inside to the Church Chapel.

As outlined in my Spring print newsletter, many residents and poll workers were unhappy with the current polling place and desired an indoor, air-conditioned and handicap accessible location. Signs will be posted directing voters to the new location. I want to thank the St. George's Rectory for its cooperation in making this change possible.
