Billboards Update

On Wednesday, July 29th, the Haverford Township Zoning Hearing Board will hold another public hearing on the challenge by the Bartkowski Group (also known as "BIG") to the constitutionality of the Township's ordinance prohibiting construction of billboards, a ban that I wholeheartedly support. According to a report in the Delaware County Daily Times, the owner of the property across from Manoa Shopping Center is seeking to terminate the lease with BIG and no longer desires the billboard to be built on the property.

The hearing will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 7:00 a.m. at the Haverford High School, 200 Mill Road, Havertown, PA 19083.

I will continue to notify you about the billboard hearings and related matters. You will also receive updates in my email newsletters, on my website, and in my print newsletters.

Environmental Advisory Committee to Learn About Energy Efficient Street Lighting

At its meeting on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at the Quatrani Building (behind the Township Building), the Township's Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) will hear a PowerPoint presentation that will illustrate the features and benefits of energy efficient lighting and induction lighting. All members of the community are welcome to attend.

Regretfully, I will be on vacation and cannot attend this meeting. The EAC continues to to be a vital cog in the Township's efforts to be more "Green" and to reduce its energy costs in the process.

Anti-Soliciting Ordinance In Effect

The Township's anti-soliciting ordinance is now in effect. Written by Commissioner Siegel, the law makes it unlawful and a public nuisance for any person, company, corporation or organization to enter upon the premises of a private residence or business at any time of the day or night for the purpose of conducting any form of soliciting or peddling where the owner or occupant of the residence or business has posted a "No Trespassing" sign, or a "No Soliciting" sign, or upon any property registered on the Township's newly-created "Do Not Solicit" list, which will be provided to the applicant with their license.

The ordinance also limits the times when soliciting and peddling are permitted, and imposes fines and/or jail for violators. The goal of the ordinance is to protect the privacy of Township residents, while balancing the rights of individuals and businesses to conduct business in the Township.

A copy of the ordinance is available by clicking this link.
Where's Dan Siegel?

I continue to meet with local residents, both at their homes and in other venues. Since Memorial Day, however, I have been under the weather a bit and am finally "all better" and you should see more of me than ever. Thanks to all the well-wishers for their kind words, cards, and patience. Rest assured every email and phone call was answered.

I am on vacation until August 3rd but will reply to calls and email as quickly as possible.

I look forward to hearing from and working with all of you as we continue to make Haverford Township a better place to live and work.
