Billboards Update
On Thursday, May 7th, the Haverford Township Zoning Hearing Board held the first of a series of public hearings on the challenge by the Bartkowski Group (also known as "BIG") to the constitutionality of the Township's ordinance prohibiting construction of billboards. The meeting was well-attended, and residents and other interested people were vocal, making it clear that billboards, which I oppose, are unwelcome eyesores unanimously unwanted in our community.
I was present at the hearing, as were many other 4th Ward residents, and I plan to attend future meetings. The second hearing on the challenge is now scheduled from Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 7:30 p.m. at Lynnewood Elementary School.
Recently, I conducted a poll on my website, www.4haverford.com, and the results (not surprisingly) were 68 to 2 against allowing billboards in the Township. I have also received many emails, letters and phone calls, all opposed to building these enormous monstrosities. It is likely that this dispute will be decided by the Courts. Regardless, you can expect updates in my email newsletters, on my website, and in my print newsletters. |
Where's Dan Siegel?
Almost everywhere, it seems.
In the last two weeks, for example, I have held meetings with local residents; we have discussed numerous topics, including:
- Improving Paddock Park
- Traffic congestion & speeding on local streets
- Ways to beautify the Eagle Road corridor
- Flooding
- Disputes among neighbors
- Uncollected trash & recycling
In addition, I have visited the homes of many residents -- and will continue to knock on doors as part of my efforts to assure that their Commissioner is open, accessible and available to assist them whenever the need arises.
I have also answered dozens of phone messages, and responded to countless emails.
I look forward to hearing from and working with all of you as we continue to make Haverford Township a better place to live and work. |
