Recycling - Saving Money & The Environment
Single Stream Recycling is saving Haverford Township money, and helping the environment. According to Township Manager Larry Gentile, the Township saved approximately $16,000.00 during January - the first month of the program.
The Township's first solid waste invoice from Delaware County (for January 2009) was $22,788.00, for a total of 1,433 tons of waste, a reduction of 877 tons of solid waste from January last year. In addition, the Township's fuel usage was reduced by 470 gallons, an additional savings of $1,805.00 for January.
Therefore, for one month of single stream recycling, the Township saved $15,805.00 because of Single Stream Recycling. |
Recycling Cans & Labels
I have received many calls and emails inquiring where to obtain the new blue Township recycling cans. New residents received one free can; all other residents can purchase cans from the Township for $18.00 (essentially the Township's cost per can). You can stop by the Township Building at 2325 Darby Road to purchase/obtain your can, or call (610) 446-1000 and speak to the Public Works Department for more information.
Alternatively, you can put "Township of Haverford Recycles" stickers on any of your cans. I have a limited supply of the free stickers, or you can contact the Township (see above) to obtain them. Once you place the sticker on a can, however, you can only use it for recycling materials.
Thanks for helping to save tax dollars and for helping to improve the environment. |
