Tips and Tricks to Make Life Easier

It's easier to be jolly when you're organized.

Here are 4 quick monthly tips from me, Molly Boren
of Simplicity Works Home + Office Organizing Services.
I hope they make your life a little easier.

Remember: if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it now.
That is, read this now and then file or delete it.
How ironic if it were to become e-clutter!
DO

Do Good without Fear of Junk Mail
Want to support the causes you love but avoid a flood of charity appeals? Fill out this "stop the junk mail madness" form from the Direct Marketing Assoc. It costs $1, but it's a good investment. Also, when sending checks & giving online, add this note: "Please remove me from mailing lists & do not rent/sell/trade my name or address."
DON'T

Don't Do One Thing
What one thing did you do last December that wasn't worth it? Let it go this time! Would a lovely store-bought cake be plenty good? Would brown paper or a bright bow be just fine? If you've already suffered this year's headache, add a reminder to your Nov 2011 calendar to skip it. Trim the fat & get to the meat of a joyous holiday.
GET

Get Low-Stress Deals
The shear number of post-holiday sales can drive us to either buy nothing or way too much. This year, decide on 4 things you'll get, how much you'll spend, & when. Here's a list of deals by month. Other ideas: holiday cards, giftwrap, gifts (to store in your "gifts to give" area), & basics like socks & underwear. And remember to shop local!
GIVE

Give Holiday Trimmings New Life
After taking down the tinsel (& storing & labeling for next year), it's easy to recycle what you can't reuse. Many towns will mulch your Christmas tree (like Chicago), & there are lots of programs for broken string lights. Giftwrap, excluding foil & tissue, can by recycled with normal paper. And if, like me, you're still wrapping, use less!

GIVE GIFT CERTIFICATES

Give (or Get!) Gift Certificates for Organizing Services
Add Simplicity Works gift certificates to your holiday gift-giving (or gift-getting!) list. It's a gift that keeps on giving: far from becoming clutter, banishes it. Services available on-site or by phone or Skype. To purchase, email Molly (molly@sworganizing.com) or call 773-915-3537. Checks and credit cards accepted.
