August 2010 | Tips and Tricks to Make Life Easier
It's easier to be cool when you're organized. |
| Here are 4 quick monthly tips from me, Molly Boren
of Simplicity Works Home + Office Organizing Services.
I hope they make your life a little easier.
Remember: if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it now. That is, read this now and then file or delete it.
How ironic if it were to become e-clutter! |

Do Enlist Guests for Housekeeping
...not by handing them a broom, but by inviting them to dinner! Do it now. Knowing they're on their way will motivate you to declutter, & maybe wrap up (or call off?) an unfinished project. Nothing fancy is needed; take-out is fine. The point is: you'll avoid clutter backlog, bond with friends, & enjoy a nice pad thai all at once. Do this monthly. |

Don't Do Anything
Now & then, do nothing. While walking, driving, or waiting, resist the urge to fill silences with an iPod or magazine. No downtime means our brains can't process today's deluge of data - & can't keep us healthy. But if you must, listen to or read about this Fresh Air interview with The NY Times' Matt Richtel: "Digital Overload: Your Brain On Gadgets" . It's fascinating & practical on this & LOTS more. |

Get Timer Tools Many of you know my Gospel of the Kitchen Timer: few things work as simply, cheaply, or painlessly to keep us on-task. ("I'll work on the newsletter for the next 30 mins.") But now I'm loving a timer on my computer or phone - which, let's face it, are the easiest places to get distracted. Mine is Time Timer, & here are more. |

Give to Doctors Saving the World (& Your Mailbox) Doctors Without Borders is saving lives demolished by the flooding in Pakistan. Reward good work by supporting them. Plus, you can even reduce or eliminate the mail they send (paper & email); just choose "Mailings" from the drop-down menu on their Contact Us page. |
