Tips and Tricks to Make Life Easier

It's easier to be lazy when you're organized.

Here are 4 quick monthly tips from me, Molly Boren
of Simplicity Works Home + Office Organizing Services.
I hope they make your life a little easier.

Remember: if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it now.
That is, read this now and then file or delete it.
How ironic if it were to become e-clutter!
DO

Do Stupid Simple Filing
Discardia, a great resource dedicated to simplicity, suggests a filing system that isn't "painfully over-complex and inefficient" -- as most are. Keep files marked just A through Z plus a few specific ones (Next Year's Tax Prep, Health Insurance), and then [drumroll]: "Put everything else you think you have to keep in one stack. Seriously, just stack it up."
DON'T

Don't Fall for the Allure of Screen Time
After a long day, I just want to veg for hours with TV or the web. I deserve it! I need to relax! I want total entertainment, total news, total knowledge of my friends' Facebook posts. But "total" is impossible, and after a while the anxiety
of lost time in the real world leaves me with more tension. Stephen King agrees with me. Try 1-2 hours of screen time (computer/cell/TV) a day, excluding work.
GET

Get 15% off at The Container Store
For those of you with a Container Store nearby, save 15% when you shop online and choose to pick up your order at the store. Use coupon code "click15offer" before Aug 22. Their basic items -- like clear storage boxes, cabinet shelves, and drawer dividers -- are higher-quality at the same prices or lower than elsewhere.
GIVE

Give Books -- and All Kinds of Other Stuff -- to SCARCE
SCARCE stands for School & Community Assistance for Recycling & Composting Education. And man, do they assist, with dozens of great programs. If you're near Glen Ellyn, IL, drop off any of a host of items for re-use by schools or non-profits: books, shoes, old crayons, ink cartridges. Or just send them money!
