May 2010 | Tips and Tricks to Make Life Easier
It's easier to be cool when you're organized. |
| Here are 4 quick monthly tips from me, Molly Boren
of Simplicity Works Home + Office Organizing Services.
I hope they make your life a little easier.
Remember: if it takes 2 minutes or less, do it now. That is, read this now and then file or delete it.
How ironic if it were to become e-clutter! |

DO |
| |
Do Reuse Produce Bags
Here's a favorite tip from my client Beth Aldrich, green living expert/writer/producer: "Along with keeping a reusable grocery bag in my purse, I also carry a couple of plastic produce bags to use when I shop for fruit and veggies. Keeps all of those extra bags out of landfills and lakes!"

DON'T
|
| |
Don't Over-Organize Sometimes we think we need complicated systems that take more time than they're worth. Focus on results that matter to you, not what you think you're "supposed" to do. Maybe you only need a "Paid Bills" file, not a separate files for every vendor. Maybe you don't need to alphabetize your books. Is the value you'd get from a system worth the energy it takes to maintain? If not, skip it! Get "organized enough." |

GET
|
| |
Get Fresh & Local 'Tis the season for farmers' markets! Chicagoans: here's a link to our markets, including one that's very likely to be close to your neighborhood. Farmer's markets are also great places to buy gifts: a bag of peaches, a bottle of olive oil, a bunch of flowers, jam -- all sure to impress ... and not become clutter. |
 |
GIVE |
| |
Give Used Items a New Home Gather up a bunch of things you can easily part with (clothes you haven't worn in a year, gifts you'll never use) and take them IMMEDIATELY to a great non-profit like
The Brown Elephant, Goodwill, or Care for Real. Items beyond repair: you have my permission to recycle what you can and toss the rest. Some thrift stores grind up damaged clothing and sell it for insulation; just bag and label it "salvage." |
